General Student Information

Tests cannot be started within 30 minutes of closing.

Please check the time commitments of each test BEFORE starting and allow yourself enough time to complete test.

Tests must be completed by the posted closing time.

FACULTY

INFORMATION

 

Academic testing for faculty members is to be administered during faculty office hours or during the office hours of the division secretary.

 

For approved special circumstances requiring the use of the testing center, please observe the following points:

 

 

  • Deliver sufficient copies of the test at least 24 hours prior to the testing date

 

  • Provide complete instructions for administering the test

 

  • Notify Testing Center 24 hours in advance of any documented special needs a student may have. Example: A reader, special visual equipment, etc.

     

 

A C T

There are 2 types of A C T tests.  The A C T Residual Test is designed to assess students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work.   A Residual A C T score is only valid for the institution at which it is taken. This score is non-transferable to other colleges and universities.

 

The tests cover four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science reasoning.   A C T requires students to wait 60 days between tests. If the 60 day time limit is violated, the test scores will be cancelled automatically.  Results are mailed within a week.  No children permitted in the testing area.

 

 The A C T National Test. Seminole State College is a host for the A C T National Tests.  The tests take place on Saturdays.  Students must register with A C T by the deadline to be able to participate in these tests.  Fees apply and are paid to A C T.  Contact A C T for further information.

Sign up in advance for desired test date in Testing Center or call Testing Center to reserve a spot.

Tests are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Haney Center Lecture Hall unless otherwise noted.

 

Please arrive 15 minutes before scheduled test time. Please allow 4 hours to complete.

 

Pay Fee of  $35.00 at Business office in Student Services Center, Rm 145 prior to testing and may be paid for in the form of Cash, Check or Money order.

Checks and money orders need to be made payable to SSC.  You must present your receipt to the ACT test proctor to take the test.

CLEP

  • CLEP Tests are scheduled on Monday-Friday and requires about 90 minutes to complete. 
  • No test may be started late.
  • Please contact the Testing Center to schedule appointment
  • Scores are given immediately and a copy is mailed to the school of your choice by CLEP.
  • A $15.00 SSC fee due before scheduled test paid in business office in Student Services Center, Rm 145
  • $77 CLEP fee due at test time
  • Fees may be paid by Check or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover)
  • A CLEP study prep available on reserve at Boren Library Circulation desk

 

 

COMPASS

COMPASS is a computerized placement and assessment system designed by ACT to help accurately place students in college courses.

The test administered at SSC may include the following areas: Mathematics, Reading, Writing skills. The number of areas a student is tested in will depend upon the student's level of ability.

 

Compass is not timed but students need to allow plenty of time to complete all sections assigned.  At least one hour to complete tests is recommended.  Results are sent back to the advisor.

  Please Bring:

  • signed form from advisor.
  • Valid Photo ID
  • No appointment is necessary.
  • Test can be up-to 2 hours. Students should allow at least one hour completing a compass test.

 

 

Nelson Denny Test

The Nelson-Denny Reading Test is a reading survey test for high school and college students and adults. A two-part test, the Nelson-Denny measures vocabulary development and comprehension.  Part I (Vocabulary) is a fifteen-minute timed test. Part II (Comprehension) is a twenty-minute test.   Students are permitted to take the Nelson Denny twice during a semester but at least 25 days apart.  There is no charge for the Nelson Denny. Scores will be mailed within a week of the test.   No children permitted in the testing area.  Individuals who desire to take the test as proof of reading proficiency in lieu of the 8th Grade Reading Test must bring their birth certificate as proof of identity if they do not have a valid photo id.

 

Sign up in advance for desired test date in Testing Center.   Please arrive 15 minutes before scheduled test time.  Please allow approximately 50 minutes to complete.

Nurse Entrance Test (NET)

Administration of the Nurse Entrance Test (NET) has been discontinued as of December 2009.

 

Students who wish to be considered for admission into the SSC Nursing Program may alternatively take the T E A S test, A C T test, and/or Nelson Denny Reading Test as part of the Admission Requirements.

 

If you have already taken the Nurse Entrance Test (NET) and would like to have your scores considered for admission into the program, please contact the SSC Nursing Department at 405.382.9205

 

 

Nursing Competency Exam

The Nursing Competency Exams I & II are given by appointment.  .Student must sign up in the Testing Center prior to test date. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to test and allow 3 hours for testing.  No children allowed in testing area.

 

Pay Fee of  $65.00 at Business office in Student Services Center, Rm 145 prior to testing and bring receipt with you on day of test.

T E A S

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS ) measures basic essential skills in the academic content area domains of reading, mathematics, science, and English and language usage.  This test is considered by the SSC Nursing Department for admission into the nursing program.

 

Space for each testing session is limited.  Students must complete the online registration and payment at www.atitesting.com to secure a seat for the desired testing session. TEAS tests given on the SSC Campus are reserved solely for applicants to the SSC Nursing Program.

 

To register for a scheduled test date and pay the $30.00 fee, go to  www.atitesting.com. Click on “Online Store” in the upper right corner of the page, then click “TEAS” under “Register for…” in the column on the left side of the page and follow the directions. Please note that the registration window closes approximately 36 hrs prior to test. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled test time and allow 4 hours for testing.  Children are not permitted in the testing area.

 

*We cannot reserve seats for individuals who have not completed the online registration.*
