READING
NOTE: Students entering SSC with an ACT Reading Sub-test score of 19 will be required to take a placement exam(s) and will be enrolled in reading according to the results.
READ 0113 Basic College Reading 3-0-0
In a Reading lab setting, students work with individualized reading materials to improve vocabulary, comprehension, study skills, and phonics (if needed). The goal of this course is to read at or above the 8th grade level on the Nelson-Denny Test, or equivalent assessment. In addition, a grade of “C” or better must be attained to clear the Reading deficiency. (Fall, Spring)
READ 0123 Fundamentals of Reading 3-0-0
In a Reading lab setting, students work with individualized reading materials to improve vocabulary, comprehension, study skills, and phonics (if needed). The goal of this course is to read at or above the 10th grade level on the Nelson-Denny Test, or equivalent assessment. In addition, a grade of “C” or better must be attained to clear the Reading deficiency. (Fall, Spring)
READ 1103 Reading Improvement 3-0-3
Reading Improvement is a class designed to increase vocabulary, comprehension, and rapid reading. If a twelfth grade reading level or above is not achieved on the Nelson Denny Test, an additional Reading class will be strongly recommended. (Varies)
