Helping to improve the quality of child care in Oklahoma

Who are we?

This program was created because Seminole State College agreed with the Department of Human Services and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to participate in an initiative that provides college courses for employed child care workers.

The Scholars for Excellence in Child Care Program provides mentoring and support services while encouraging Oklahoma's child care providers to pursue a formal education in Child Development.

With the help of scholarships and financial aid, participating child care providers (Scholars) are first encouraged to complete coursework required to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential.

A Certificate of Mastery in Child Development is encouraged as a next step for the scholars to continue their higher education course-work..

An Associate Degree in Child Development will further enhance professional and personal development.

The Director's Certification of Completion applies to directors and assistant directors only.  It will enrich the Child Development courses taken for the Certification of Mastery and add Business/Administration knowledge

Program Goals:

Improve the quality of care provided in licensed child care facilities.

Reduce staff turnover in the field of child care.
