SSC gears up for Higher Learning Commission campus visit

Seminole State College Higher Learning Commission Marketing and Communications Committee increased awareness on campus about the HLC accreditation visit, Oct. 26-28, with the unveiling and hanging of the SSC Mission Banner in the Student Union.
Excited students waited in line for free “Mission Possible” T-Shirts to show their support of the upcoming visit. Members of the HLC Communications and Marketing Committee are Marie Dawson, Mechell Downey, Eddy Cathey, Teresa Norman, John Bartos and Dustie Butner

Members of the SSC Marketing and Communications Committee for the SSC Higher Learning Commission Self-Study accreditation project take a minute to pose for a picture during Thursday night’s homecoming festivities. The group passed put more than 100 candy bars wrapped with facts about SSC’s Self-Study project and how the accreditation process affects student, staff and the community.
While enjoying their sweets, attendees had a chance to view the newly launched SSC Self-Study website. Additionally, prizes and other sweet treats were given away at the event.
This was the kick-off event to promote awareness of SSC’s Self-Study program, a voluntary peer review process that ensures the quality and integrity of SSC’s programs and services.

On behalf of the team who is reviewing the most current data submissions (Jessica Isaacs, Kelli McBride, Mary Ann Hill, Yashanda Scruggs, and myself), please accept our sincere appreciation of everyone who has worked diligently over the past 16 months to gather data for the Self-Study for Accreditation - as well as those who came on board recently to assist with the task. After a series of meetings totaling 35 hours over the past week, the team has completed reviewing the Five Criterion, the Response to the 17 Concerns from the 2000 site visit, and the Federal Compliance section.
With the exception of a few individuals who have already been contacted, the data gathering task for the Criterion Team members is now concluded.
As Jessica begins crafting the next rough draft of the Report, a group of volunteers will begin filling in the gaps revealed during the submissions review process. In addition, I will conclude the work associated with responding to the three Challenges from the 2000 visit, and Marta Osby will finish the Institutional Snapshot.
I am meeting with the Documents and Technology Team next week. Together, we will devise a plan for that team to finish the task (previously assigned to the Criterion committees) of compiling, inventorying, and preparing for inclusion into the Report, all the supporting documents used by the Criterion committees. While most of these documents probably already exist on the S drive, the Docs/Tech team may still need to gather some documents from the various Criterion committee members. Please be prepared to help them with expedite their task.
I do ask, as the committees' formal work is now concluded, that the leaders of the committees who have not submitted their team meeting minutes will do so very soon. As you are aware, those minutes serve as our formal documentation that this process included multiple constituencies across campus, which we must demonstrate to the HLC. We need to make the minutes a matter of public record by posting them to our HLC website as soon as possible.
Again, thank you very much for your participation in this important process. I will provide additional updates as we progress.
