NEWS RELEASEJanuary 25, 2010 Trojan Baseball Season Kick-off Banquet ScheduledThe Seminole State College Trojan Baseball Team will host their 2010 Kick-off Banquet on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2009, at 6:00 p.m. in the Enoch Kelly Haney Center. Former Trojan baseball player Joe Jordan, scouting director for the Baltimore Orioles will be the speaker for the evening. Tickets for the event are $20. Corporate sponsorship tables seating eight are also available for $150. Three Trojan baseball teams will be honored on their 10th, 20th and 30th anniversaries: the 1980 Trojans, the 1990 Trojans and the 2000 Trojans. NEWS RELEASEJanuary 22, 2010 SSC Supporters Attend Regional Higher Education Legislative Briefing
Dr. Glen D. Johnson, chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education, met with 50 area legislators and friends of higher education this week in McAlester to discuss the importance of higher education in improving the economy and business climate of the state. Seminole community leaders were among those in attendance at the Southeast Oklahoma Legislative Briefing held at Pete’s Place in Krebs. A delegation representing Seminole State College was led by Dr. Jim Utterback, SSC President. Oklahoma State Senator Harry Coates (R-District 28) was a special guest of the SSC group. Others in the delegation included SSC Regents Marci Donaho and Jeff Miller, SSC Educational Foundation Trustees Mark Schell, Kenny Pryor and Jim Hardin, and SSC Vice President for Institutional Advancement Lana Reynolds. Joining the SSC supporters were friends of the college from the McAlester area – Wes Brown, McAlester attorney, and Warren Lindley, Hartshorne businessman. Colleges participating in the event included: East Central University, Eastern Oklahoma State College, Carl Albert State College, Connors State College, Murray State College, Seminole State College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The event was part of a statewide initiative that brings together local legislators, college and university presidents, and community leaders in a forum to discuss higher education’s goals, initiatives and agenda for the upcoming legislative session. “Our message to legislators was one of expressing thanks for their past support, as well as explaining our future needs. Seminole State College plays a vital role in our community and in the state system of higher education, as do the other colleges and universities in this area, and we need to make certain that our students are an important priority in the coming legislative session,” Utterback said.

NEWS RELEASEJanuary 14, 2010 Senator Coates receives award from Higher Education
The Council of Presidents and the Oklahoma State Regents honored Senator Harry Coates Jan. 14 on the campus of Seminole State College for his service to Oklahoma Higher Education. Chancellor Glen Johnson and Seminole State College President Dr. Jim Utterback presented the 2009 Distinguished Service Award to Senator Coates for his consistency in strongly advocating for higher education and the students in the district. The presentation was made during a Thursday morning reception at the Haney Center attended by over 100 campus and community guests. In addition to SSC students, faculty and staff, representatives from East Central University in Ada and Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton were in attendance. Dr. Steve Smith, President of Eastern, participated in the award presentation. Also attending were Seminole State College Regents David Wilson and Marci Donaho, Seminole School Superintendent Jeff Pritchard, Justice School Superintendent William Harrison, Jr., Gordon Cooper Technology Center Superintendent Marty Lewis and several Trustees of the SSC Educational Foundation. The Council of Presidents and the State Regents are honoring 16 elected officials for their service to higher education during the 2009 legislative session. The honorees include seven house members, seven senate members and two executive branch members. Each recipient will be presented their award at the higher education institution in or closest to their district or an institution of their choosing. Senator Coates attended Strother High School. He received his Associate’s in General Business from Seminole State College in 2007. Senator Coates also attended Southwest Technical Institute, University of Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma City Southwestern College. Coates is involved in several Civic and Community organizations including Roof Consultant Institute, National Roofing Contractors Association, Construction Specifiers Institute, SMACNA and Professional Construction Estimators Association. He is a member and active supporter of the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum and the Downtown Investment Group of Wewoka. His involvement led him to be recognized as Seminole’s 1999 “Citizen of the Year” and in 2009 he was inducted into the Seminole State College Hall of Fame. He was elected to the Oklahoma State Senate District #28 in 2002. Coates enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife Betty and four children Jeremy, Heather, Eddie and Brandon

NEWS RELEASEJanuary 11, 2010 SSC welcomes students back to schoolParking lots overflowing with cars are a sure sign that school is back in session at Seminole State College. On Monday, SSC welcomed both returning and new students for the spring 2010 semester. Open enrollment for students will continue through Friday, Jan. 15. Students may enroll with special permission through Friday, Jan. 22. Returning students will notice the new 16,600 square-foot Student Services Building at Seminole State College, designed as a one-stop enrollment center, is open to serve students enrolling for the Spring, 2010 term. Using the money from the 2005 Higher Education Bond Issue, SSC constructed the new one-stop Student Center to allow students to complete the enrollment process in one centralized location. Admissions, Counseling, Financial Aid, the Business Office and Campus Police offices are all housed in the new facility. The new student services and enrollment center is located near the southeast edge of campus on the site of the former tennis courts. Although the spring term is underway and enrollment for regular semester classes ends Friday, the College will continue to offer mid-term and short-term courses throughout the coming months. The courses will be offered at times to accommodate working adults. The offerings will be announced throughout the semester. NEWS RELEASEJanuary 4, 2010 SSC Spring Classes begin Jan. 11The new 16,600 square-foot Student Services Building at Seminole State College, designed as a one-stop enrollment center, will be open to serve students enrolling for the Spring, 2010 term on Monday, Jan. 4 Enrollment for the spring semester at Seminole State College will continue after the New Year’s holiday with classes slated to begin on Monday, Jan. 11. The SSC’s Admissions Office, Business Office and SSC Bookstore will reopen Jan. 4 with special spring enrollment hours Monday, Jan. 4 through Thursday, Jan.7 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Friday, Jan. 8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Special hours for enrollment will also be held on Saturday, Jan. 9 from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. Class schedules detailing course offerings are available on the College’s website at www.sscok.edu.
