Onaye Sims again proved his dominance in the paint by leading SSC with 18 points with teammates Donte Foster scoring 13, Jacobi Isham, 12; Erv Ezell, 10; Elijah Gore, 9; and Jarrod McDaniel, 1.
The win earned the Trojans the title of OCAC runners-up and a second seed in the Region 2 tournament that begins next weekend on the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, OK. Game time is 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5th. Their opponent will be the winner of the Western OK State vs. Eastern OK State game that will be played on Monday. SSC ends their regular season with a record of 19-9 overall and 13-5 in conference play.

Head Coach Tom Mills is also pleased with his team’s performance. “Once again our team showed great character and resilience in battling through the adversity that yesterday brought our team after a very tough loss on Monday. To beat a very well-coached team like Murray in the manner that we did speaks volumes for our team’s mind set. Because they can take it and it helps, I’ve been able to be very, very tough and demanding with this group and they have responded brilliantly to every challenge,” said Mills.
With a record of 12-5 in conference play and 18-9 overall, SSC heads to Carl Albert State College on Thursday for their last game of the regular season. They are currently in second place in the OCAC which could give them the second seed in the Region II tournament that begins on March 5th in Shawnee, OK.
Top Two Teams Battle
2/22/10 - SEMINOLE, OK
The Trojans, standing at
second place in their conference, came onto the court Monday night ready
to defeat the fourth ranked
“I am really proud of the effort, toughness, and character our team showed tonight. Because of those things, we are, all things considered, operating at a pretty efficient level. The downside is because of that, improvement is harder to come by. We’re at the point of addressing our most deeply rooted weaknesses and those can’t be addressed in our comfort zone. All we can do is get tougher and make more shots,” commented Head Coach Tom Mills.
Onaye Sims had another high scoring night with 18 points. Other contributions were made by Donte Foster, 13; Erv Ezell, 10; Jacobi Isham, 10; Jarrod McDaniel, 7; Elijah Gore, 6; and George Young, 5.

“It is gratifying to get another win while shooting below 40 % on the night. We are still searching for the ability to emphatically end games as the opportunity presents itself as it did again last night. The win marks a season sweep of Western OK State College and marks the Trojans’ 7th straight victory which puts them in contention for first place in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference. SSC will compete against Connors State College, who is currently in the lead and nationally ranked in the top ten, on Monday 20 minutes following the women’s game in Harber Fieldhouse in Seminole.

Seminole State Overpowers Redlands
2/8/10 - EL RENO, Oklahoma
When the SSC men’s basketball team competes at Redlands Community College it is always a battle. The Cougars have a fan base that can rattle some teams, but not the Trojans. “It was great to get a road win in a very hostile environment,” stated Head Coach Tom Mills.
After losing starting post player Joe Ikhinmwin to knee surgery, Onaye Sims was given the opportunity to come in and make a name for himself. He did just that on Monday. Sims had a career high 25 points and led the Trojans to an 80-70 victory. “Onaye Sims had a wonderful game in the paint and on the glass,” said Mills.
SSC had an early second half 16 point lead, but that dwindled down until they trailed with seven minutes left in the game. The Trojans kept their composure and played strong until they regained the lead. Elijah Gore hit three treys on his way to contributing 14 points. “It was both distressing to see us fritter away the lead and gratifying to see us stay poised we needed to make a second effort,” Mills said.
Other SSC scorers were: Jacobi Isham, 13; Erv Ezell, 10; Donte Foster, 7; Jarrod McDaniel, 5; Brett Smith, 4; Robertas Grabauskas, 2.
SSC Men Handle Eastern
2/1/10 - SEMINOLE, Oklahoma
About 9 minutes into the men’s basketball game at EOSC it looked like it was going to be a runaway victory for the Trojans with the score at 18-5. However, the Mountaineers edged back into it throughout the rest of the competition. By halftime SSC’s lead was cut to 9, 33-24, and by the end of regulation the Trojans had edged out Eastern by only 2, 59-57. “We played real well for about the first ten minutes, but then lost some of our discipline and let Eastern creep their way back into the game. Our second half effort was not our best,” commented Head Coach Tom Mills. The Trojans were 2 for 5 from the line in the last minute of the game. Donte Foster and Erv Ezell had huge offensive rebounds towards the end of the game that helped secure the win. Eastern had the ball twice in the last minute with a chance to put away the Trojans but couldn’t score. Trojans Conquer Norse
1/27/10 - SEMINOLE, Oklahoma
Due to the weather conditions expected on Thursday, the Trojans of Seminole State College set off for Northeastern OK A&M College on Wednesday. This proved to be a good decision as the SSC men’s basketball team came home with an overtime victory. The three point shooting percentage was dramatically improved over the last few games coming in at 43% for the Trojans. This helped them maintain the lead throughout the game until the final minute when the Norsemen were aggressively going for the steal and coming away with points. The final score of regulation was 59-59. During the five minutes of overtime SSC outscored their foe 13-11 to come away with the win. “I’m really proud of the way my players responded to both the challenge I issued to the team following our last game and the way we stepped up and made shots and plays for 45 minutes tonight. Our poor defensive footwork and positioning put our whole team in foul trouble.
“It was very disappointing to see us relinquish a large lead in both the first and second halves. However, it was very gratifying to see us pull together as a team down the stretch and secure the victory.” Despite the Trojans questionable defense, their offense was on point. Trojans Pick Up Big Road Win
12/1/09 - ALTUS, Oklahoma
The Seminole State men’s basketball team had a tough challenge in front of them on Tuesday as they took on Western Oklahoma State College, one of the toughest teams in the conference. The Trojans came ready to play and proved to be too much for the Pioneers as they won 65-62. “We are always very pleased to pick up road wins in conference play,” stated Head Coach Thomas Mills. “As has been the case so far this season, our defense put us in a position to win the game last night. I thought we played exceptionally well defensively in the first half, but had a number of key breakdowns in the last ten minutes that gave Western a chance to win.
“On the offensive side it was refreshing to see our guys make an all-out effort to manage the clock when we got an eleven point lead midway through the second half. However, we went way too far in those efforts and pretty much quit trying to score completely. In addition to our opponent’s fine play-making ability, I believe that contributed to Western cutting into the lead and into our defensive breakdowns late.” Three different players did their part to keep SSC in the game by scoring double digits. Donte Foster led the way with 16, as Jacobi Isham followed with 15, and Joe Ikhinmwin added 14.

The bench stepped up and gave us much needed productivity, especially Erv Ezell and Onaye Sims.” Trojan scoring came from: Stuart Sullivan 18, Donte Foster 13, Jacobi Isham 8, Joseph Ikhinmwin 8, Onaye Sims 5, Erv Ezell 3, Joe Uke 2, and Brett Smith 2.

Trojans Lose Heartbreaker
11/5/07 - SEMINOLE, Oklahoma
The Trojan men were defeated by Cowley College Thursday night as they lost the heartbreaker 70-67. Seminole State College fought hard and had the lead for nearly 35 minutes of the match up but Cowley would not let down, erasing the 11 point deficit they faced at half time. “My hat goes off to Cowley,” said Head Coach Thomas Mills. “They simply out-toughed and out-executed us down the stretch with a team made of primarily freshmen. Tonight’s loss was really disheartening because although we played our hearts out, we did an extremely poor job of executing the basic fundamentals that we have worked on every day since day one. We did an even worse job of making in-game adjustments and correcting very fixable problems related to things we work on every day.” In the last five minutes of the game the Trojans kept the score close but could never regain the lead. The Trojans gave it one last shot as Stuart Sullivan put up a last second three-pointer but it was just off the mark.
