Trojan Golf Updates

The Seminole State golf team traveled to McPherson, KS for their first tournament of the year.  The men finished fourth out of 17, all of which were 4-year universities except one.  The men finished with team totals of 297, 297 for both days of the tournament.  “I was very pleased with the team in our first competitive match of the year,” said Head Coach Nathan Jahn.  Freshman Jed Williams shot rounds of 72, 70 for a 2-over total....placing him 4th out of 85 competitors.  “I was impressed with the freshman’s mental game in his first college tournament. I look for good things out of him this season, as well as the rest of our freshmen. This is the most competitive team we have had since I’ve been here. Any of the 9 players have a chance to make the top-5.”  Sophomore Nathan Harris finished tied for 7th with rounds of 72, 73 for a 5-over total.  Other totals:  Sophomore Mariano Newton,153 tied for 24th; Sophomore Dan Difrancesco,154 tied for 33d; and Freshman Mason Meadows,160 tied for 45th.

The men traveled to Winfield, KS for their second tournament of the year.  Again they played very well against mostly 4-year universities placing fourth out of 15, with rounds of 311 and 313.  Finishing 1st among junior colleges again was a good sign.  “I was very pleased with our second performance of the year,” said Head Coach Nathan Jahn. “This is one of the most difficult courses we will play all season. We were able to beat all three schools that finished ahead of us at McPherson. This is a very encouraging sign that we will play hard all season and continue to make strong showings.” Freshman Jed Williams once again had the best tournament finishing third out of 73 competitors, with a two day total of 150 6-over.  Jed proved he will be a top competitor all season.  Also, finishing strong was Nathan Harris tied for 12th followed by Mariano Newton who tied for 20th. In their first tournament action of the year, Sophomore Clint Burley finished tied for 27th and Freshman Klay Dodd finished tied for 40th. The next competition will be in Tyler, TX October 26th-27th.
