Big News for SSC GEAR UP Grant

Seminole State College to receive new GEAR UP Grant

U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe’s office received written confirmation on April 3 that the grant will be funded.  Seminole State College will receive $568,000 immediately for the first budget period of the grant.  Inhofe’s office said it is anticipated that the award will be for six years – bringing the total award to approximately $3.4 million.

This award is great news for Seminole State College – and ultimately for the 710 students who will receive valuable services through the GEAR UP program. GEAR UP provides workshops, academic enrichment, educational field trips, cultural and family events, and information on financial aid and Oklahoma’s Promise. GEAR UP also provides professional development for educators, training for parents about the importance of secondary education for their children, and summer camps for program participants.

The new GEAR UP grant will serve over 700 students in 16 partner schools in 5 counties. The program will also work with area business and community partners to provide career exploration opportunities and workshops.
