Technology+GEAR UP=Student Success

August 15, 2012 – Through use of grant funds, the Seminole State College GEAR UP staff recently provided each of the program’s partner schools with new TI-84 graphing calculators to assist 8th grade students covered by the partnership grant.

“As technology continues to impact students and teachers, GEAR UP is committed to assist in providing equipment and training to our partner schools,” said Lisa Battige, GEAR UP Technology Specialist.

In addition, an iPad has been distributed to each school’s 8th grade faculty. Teachers will use the iPad to develop and work with apps to enhance the classroom experience and engage students.

In the near future, technology plans for the OK, Go College! GEAR UP project includes additional purchases of iPads and sync carts to be placed with the 8th grade cohort.

“iPads in the classroom inspires and gives teachers and students hands-on learning at their fintertips, meeting the GEAR UP goal of helping teachers and schools create engaged and data-driven teaching and learning environments,” Battige said
