Holly Vance Joins GEAR UP Staff
Vance brings more than 10 years of public education experience to her new position with the SSC GEAR UP project and most recently worked as a teacher at Wewoka Public Schools. She earned her bachelor’s degree in 2006 from Mount Olive College in North Carolina and recently completed her master’s in counseling from East Central University.
While working as a teacher for Wewoka, she also committed her time during the summer months with Upward Bound projects at both Seminole State and East Central.
The SSC GEAR UP Advisors coordinate the activities for the GEAR UP students at each of their assigned schools and serve as the project’s primary contacts with parents, families and educators working together to help the students succeed. Together, the entire project staff plan and implement strategies to help ensure students are aware of opportunities to continue their education beyond high school and also prepare them for the transition to post-secondary education.
Vance joins Jennifer Rudolph and Tessa Russell maintaining that primary contact with the students at the SSC project’s 15 partner schools. Rudolph, a GEAR UP advisor since the project was funded in 2012, plans activities and works with students at Asher, Earlsboro, Maud, Prague, Sasakwa and Seminole High Schools. Russell began work with the program in July and advises students at Butner, Holdenville and Wetumka.
Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs is a federally-funded grant project through the United States Department of Education.
