High School Juniors Are Now Eligible for Tuition Waivers at SSC

This fall, high school juniors will have the opportunity to earn college credit through tuition-free enrollment in concurrent courses at Seminole State College.

Qualified students will be able to earn nine credit hours over the course of the fall 2019 and spring 2020 semesters. The concurrent program is already available to high school seniors. Students are only responsible for paying course fees and books.

Seminole High School junior Brenna Canfield meets with a Seminole State College advisor to discuss tuition-free concurrent class options for the fall semester.

SSC President Lana Reynolds said the College is excited to be able to extend this offer to juniors due to Legislative funding and support from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.  “At one time, SSC was able to provide this great program to high school juniors, but due to decreased funding in past years, the tuition waivers were eliminated.  We appreciate our elected officials at the Capital stepping forward to fund concurrent enrollment for both seniors and juniors.  Through this program, Oklahoma high school students get a head-start on their college careers which saves them valuable time and money.

“We encourage area high schools and parents to reach out to Seminole State College to get students enrolled as quickly as possible,” Reynolds said.

To apply for concurrent classes at SSC, interested students must complete an application for admission and submit an SSC concurrent enrollment form as well as an official high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores. High school students must have scored a minimum composite of 19 on the ACT or a 900 on the SAT or have a high school GPA of a 3.0 or above. Other requirements include eligibility for high school graduation, a combined high school and college course load of no more than 19 hours and signed approval by the high school principal and counselor, as well as parental consent.

All concurrent forms are available on the College website at www.sscok.edu or they may be obtained from the SSC Admissions Office on campus, located in the Walkingstick Student Services Center, just off of Highway 9 on the SSC campus.  For more information about concurrent enrollment at SSC, you can contact Admissions by phone at 405-382-9230 or by email at admissions@sscok.edu. SSC begins its fall semester on Aug. 12.
