SSC Regents Approve Salary Increases for Faculty and Staff

The Seminole State College Board of Regents convened June 20 for their monthly meeting. The Board approved the college’s budget for the 2020 fiscal year, a 3.5% salary increase for all employees and a 3.3% increase in tuition and fees.

The meeting opened with a discussion of the financial report. During the President’s Report, SSC President President Lana Reynolds provided a personnel update, information on a partnership with East Central University, campus activities and an update on the SSC Educational Foundation’s sports complex project.

Two action items were approved by the Board. First, the Board approved a 3.3% tuition and fees increase, beginning with the fall 2019 semester. Resident tuition will be increased from $99 to $104 per credit hour, and nonresident tuition will be increased from $303 to $315 per credit hour.

Second on the action agenda, the Board approved the college’s Educational and General Fund Budget budget for the 2020 fiscal year, which includes a 3.5% raise for all employees – less a $120 increase in health and dental insurance allowance.

“Because this year’s state funding came with legislative intent for a 3.5% faculty raise, we felt it was important to provide a raise in the same amount for our staff. In order to cover these costs, we chose to raise our tuition and fees package this year. Although it was a difficult decision, and no one likes to increases costs for students, we felt it was imperative we make this change for the benefit of our staff. This increase demonstrates our commitment to reward all of our employees for their hard work and commitment to our students and the institution,” President Reynolds said.

Under the consent agenda, the Board approved several contractual agreements in the coming year, including services with Brightspace, Jenzabar, continued athletic insurance and a lease for the use of Oiler Park.

Board members present at the meeting were: Ryan Franklin, Ray McQuiston, Curtis Morgan, Paige Sherry and Kim Hyden.

The next regularly-scheduled SSC Board of Regents meeting is set for Thursday, July 18, 2019.
