SSC’s new transitional education program begins in the fall 2013 semester. Our new Transitional Education program is the result of several pilots of developmental courses where alternative approaches to teaching developmental education were introduced.
After testing these new approaches, our transitional education program is a compilation of our successes and what strategies we felt would work best for our specific student population.
In the past, students testing into basic college reading and basic grammar were required to enroll in Fundamentals of Reading and Fundamentals of English. NASNTI’s lead instructors for both English and Reading have combined all four courses into one course offering. This new course will save students who successfully complete this course one semester and seven credits.
The program provides students that test into the most basic developmental education courses with the remediation students need while shortening the time it takes to prepare for college level coursework.
