The Seminole State College Lady Trojans finished up the
2008 NJCAA National Championships today in 11th place. SSC finished the
tournament with 27 points, only 1/2 point behind Meridian CC who Seminole
State beat earlier in the year in a dual match. Hillsborough CC from
Tampa, Florida won the overall National Championship with 45 points,
followed closely by Tyler JC (44 points), Lee College (43 points), ABAC
(42 points), Collin CC (39.5 points), NCTC (38 points), Laredo CC (37
points), Florida CC Jacksonville (31 points), and Barton CC (29 points).
SSC Freshman Cassandra Kleber was the final girl to finish the tourney,
winning todays Flight #2 Consolation championship over Univ. of Arkansas
Ft. Smith's Aurelie Meyer. Kleber was down 7-2 in the pro set, and fought
back to win in a tiebreaker.
This year's tourney featured 36 teams, more teams than any other previous
year in the Division 1 Championships. With 63 total teams sponsoring
NJCAA Division 1 women's tennis, the Lady Trojans finish of #11 was a
great suprise for the recently restarted program.
Congrats to Cassandra Kleber, Sara Anic, Morgan Whitmire, Brooke Williams,

#5 Trojans win NJCAA Region 2 Championship over
#10 Univ. of Arkansas Ft.
Smith
Tulsa, Oklahoma
After splitting the first two matches of the season
with the University of Arkansas Ft. Smith, the Seminole State Trojans
took care of business today in the tiebreaker match to decide who would
be the Region 2 Champ in NJCAA. SSC won the match over UAFS by a final
score of 6-3, giving the Trojans their 20th dual win of the season and
the NJCAA Region 2 Championship.
The match today comes only one day after the Trojans received their
highest national ranking in program history, coming in ranked #5 in the
nation in NJCAA. Also with today's win, it ran the teams overall record
to
20-6 overall, a feat that not to many other colleges in all of college
tennis has achieved by winning 20 matches.
The Trojans will have the weekend off, and then will prepare for their
final match of the season, next Wednesday at home vs. Oklahoma Christian
University. OC edged SSC earlier in the season 5-4 in Oklahoma City.

have already clinched the Region 2 Championship.
Also yesterday, the SSC Ladies team received their highest ever national
ranking coming in at #10 in NJCAA. The ladies are 14-8 overall, and will
go for win number 15 on Monday vs. UAFS.

In today's final match against the host team UAFS, the women rolled

to win 5-4.
Earlier in the weekend, the SSC women defeated Meridian CC (Mississippi)
5-4 and Johnson County CC by a score of 6-3. As for the men, the Trojans
defeated Meridian on Saturday 9-0 and upset #3 Johnson County CC 5-4.
The win moves the Trojans overall record on the season to 18-6, and
the Lady Trojans overall record on the season to 14-8.

Oklahoma at 3:00 pm

tennis team upset Johnson County CC by a score of 5-4 today here in Fort
Smith, Arkansas.
SSC started off the match by losing #1 and #3 doubles, but would fight
back to win 4 out of the 6 singles matches to win the dual 5-4.
Coming into today's match Johnson County was ranked #3 in NJCAA, and
Seminole State was ranked #7. The win moves the Trojans to 16-6 overall,
as earlier in the day SSC defeated Meridian Community College also by
a score of 9-0.
Up next: Sunday, April 12th, vs. University of Arkansas Ft. Smith at
Ft.
Smith, AR at 10am

Trojans finish off weekend with a perfect 3-0 record, beat NJCAA's #6,
#8, & #9
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma The Seminole State College Men's tennis team
just finished off a perfect 3-0 weekend at their own SSC Trojan Festival
held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The Trojans ended up beating 3 of the top 10 teams in the nation, #9
Barton County CC by score of 5-4, #8 Seward County CC by score of 6-3,
and finally #6 Cowley County CC by score of 5-4.
All 3 wins were the first ever team wins in SSC's tennis history over
these schools, as the Kansas schools are always highly ranked men's programs
in the NJCAA.
Word from Assistant Coach Josue Paz:
"The final match today against Cowley was a nail bitter. We went
up 2-1 after doubles, but could have almost got all 3 as we only lost
the #1 doubles match in a tiebreaker. I felt very confident about our
singles though, even though we had to take out our #4 singles player
Anton Matveev to rest a sore wrist. We ended up getting 3 out of the
6 singles matches to win 5-4. I think we could have got one more singles
match out of there, but one of our guys just lost a tough one in a 3rd
set tiebreak. A win is a win though, and we finished off a great weekend.
It was great to beat Cowley, as they were ranked above us in the polls
and now maybe we can move up."
Next up: Saturday, March 12, in Fort Smith, Arkansas vs. Meridian County
Community College.

Trojans get first ever win over #9 Barton County CC
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma The Seminole State College Trojan men's tennis
team just beat Barton County Community College today in the first day
of the SSC Trojan Festival. The win is the first ever team win over Barton
in the Trojan's program history, as the Barton Cougars are always a top
nationally ranked team.
Coming into today's match, Seminole was ranked #7 while Barton was ranked
#9 in NJCAA. However the Trojans knew they would have their hands full,
as only earlier in the week on Tuesday Barton defeated the #3 team
in the nation in NJCAA, Johnson County Community College from Kansas.
Starting off in doubles, the teammates of Andres Nunez and Anton Matveev
got an 8-6 win at #1, Brett Little and Armando Morales lost a close one
at
#2 8-6, and the #3 doubles pair of Andrew Carter and Aaron Goode won
8-4.
Going into the six singles matches with a 2-1 lead is always a little
bit more comfortable to breathe, but not in this one. SSC got a win at
#1 singles by way of Andres Nunez, putting the match score to 3-1 SSC.
Things would then turn though with Barton winning the #2, #3, and #4
singles matches and taking a 4-3 lead over Seminole. With only two matches
left on court, it was up to #5 Armando Morales and #6 Aaron Goode. Armando
Morales won a close 3 set match, to even the score at 4-4 with only Aaron
Goode left on. Goode won the first set 6-4, and was taken to a tiebreaker
in the second set where he finished it off 7-6.
Words from Assistant Coach Josue Paz
"The guys played great today. Coming off a long road trip last week
where we got another pretty good juco win over New Mexico Military, I
think this was our biggest men's dual match win in the history of the
SSC Tennis program. We have always known Barton County is tough, and
have never even really come close to them. Then even at the beginning
of the year we saw we were ranked ahead of them, but this week we saw
they beat #3 Johnson we knew it would be a tough test. Some of the guys
didn't play as well as i wish they could have, but a win is a win no
matter what the score is and we will move on to tomorrow's matches against
two more top ten ranked teams."
Next up:
Tomorrow, April 5th, 2008 at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center in Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma at 9am vs. Seward County Community College (NJCAA #8)

The ladies defeated Newman University 7-2, Bethel College 5-4, Kansas
Wesleyan 9-0, and McPherson College 9-0.
The four wins moves the Lady Trojans overall record now to 8-6 going
into spring break. Next up: Wednesday March 26th vs. University of Arkansas
Ft.
Smith here in Seminole.

Trojan Men win sixth straight dual match with defeat over
17th ranked Temple Jr. College 8-1
Ft. Worth, Texas The Seminole State College Men's tennis team defeated
17th ranked Temple Jr. College here today at Texas Christian University
in Ft. Worth, Texas.
The Trojans started off a bit slow, and were even without #2 player Andrew
Carter due to illness, but dropped only one match of 9 to win by a score
of 8-1.
The win moves the men's overall record to 6-3 overall, this their 6th
straight win in a row.
Next up: Thursday, March 6th, at home vs. The University of Arkansas Ft.
Smith.

Trojans pick up first win of season over NCAA D2 Southeastern Oklahoma
State University
Edmond, Oklahoma The Seminole State College (Oklahoma) Trojans picked
up their first team victory of the season today over NCAA D2 Southeastern
Oklahoma State University here in Edmond, Oklahoma.
SSC started off the match hot as they picked up all 3 doubles wins, with
the most exciting match at #3 doubles as Aaron Goode and Andrew Carter
took a close one 9-8 over SOSU's Ben Disley and Nikita Ryashenko. The other
two doubles matches were not as close, as Andres Nunez and Anton Matveev
got a 8-4 win at #1, and Brett Little and Armando Morales got a
8-2 win at #2 doubles.
In singles action, the Trojans continued to dominate. First off the court
was the #1 singles match, as Andres Nunez won impressively 6-0, 6-1.
Following Nunez's win would be Andrew Carter with a straight set victory
of 7-6, 7-6 over SOSU's Jesse Buchannan. Southeastern would get their first
victory next as SSC's Anton Matveev went down at #2 singles by a score
of 6-4, 7-6. With 3 matches to go, SSC would take two of the final 3 to
win the overall dual match by a score of 7-2. The final two victories for
the Trojans would be Brett Little at #4 singles and Aaron Goode at #6 singles,
both with very hard fought 3 set victories.
