{"id":1036,"date":"2019-01-28T10:22:08","date_gmt":"2019-01-28T16:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/?p=1036"},"modified":"2019-01-30T08:28:25","modified_gmt":"2019-01-30T14:28:25","slug":"seminole-chamber-of-commerce-passes-resolution-in-support-of-ssc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/seminole-chamber-of-commerce-passes-resolution-in-support-of-ssc\/","title":{"rendered":"Seminole Chamber of Commerce Passes Resolution In Support of SSC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Seminole Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted Friday to support community efforts to retain local governing board control of Seminole State College.\u00a0 The Board passed a resolution at their meeting held Jan. 25.<!--more--><\/p>\n\n\n<p>Chamber Chairman of the\nBoard Darren Frederick signed the resolution expressing support from Seminole\u2019s\nbusiness community and the Chamber\u2019s members. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThe College is an integral part of this community.\u00a0 This community has long demonstrated its support for \u201cits\u201d college and the college has been a big contributor to the community.\u00a0 It is an economic development engine and a great partner to the Chamber and city in working to improve our area.\u201d <\/p><cite> <br> <br>Darren Frederick &#8211; Chamber Chairman of the Board  <\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Chamber Chief Executive\nOfficer Amy Britt added, \u201cWe believe local control of the college is\nimportant.&nbsp; We wanted our citizens,\nlegislators and the State Regents for Higher Education to understand this\ncommunity stands behind keeping the current governance structure in place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resolution was passed\nin response to recommendations by the Oklahoma Higher Education Task Force to\nmerge several rural community colleges, including SSC, with other institutions\nand to dissolve their Boards of Regents effective June 30, 2019.&nbsp; The resolution states, \u201csuch action would be\ndetrimental to the College, the community and employees and students of SSC.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stressing that the\ncollege is a major employer and active corporate citizen, the resolution says\nthe College \u201cprovides economic strength to the area and vital educational and\ncultural opportunities for community members, as well as students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMaintaining local\ncontrol of Seminole State College is of paramount importance in ensuring\nquality services continue to be provided to our area,\u201d the resolution\nconcludes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Seminole Chamber of\nCommerce\u2019s mission is to strengthen the area economy and quality of life\nthrough several broad initiatives, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Helping businesses\nprosper and grow;<\/li><li>Increasing job\nopportunities;<\/li><li>Encouraging the\norderly expansion and development of all segments of the community;<\/li><li>Contributing to\nthe overall economic stability of Seminole; and<\/li><li>Encouraging and promoting\nthe nation\u2019s private enterprise systems of competitive marketing.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn addition to Chairman Darren Frederick, the 2019 Chamber Board is led\nby Executive Committee members:&nbsp;
