{"id":1373,"date":"2019-06-25T08:37:46","date_gmt":"2019-06-25T14:37:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/?p=1373"},"modified":"2019-07-18T08:47:07","modified_gmt":"2019-07-18T14:47:07","slug":"ssc-and-ecu-hire-shared-english-instructor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/ssc-and-ecu-hire-shared-english-instructor\/","title":{"rendered":"SSC and ECU Hire Shared English Instructor"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Seminole State College and East Central\nUniversity have announced a partnership to share the employment of a full-time\nEnglish instructor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Presidents of both institutions,\nthe shared employee is an example of a partnership created to better utilize\nresources allocated by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the\nOklahoma Legislature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOver the past few months, we have been\ndiscussing ways to make joint purchases and share costs of services, as well as\nlooking at possible positions that could be shared.&nbsp; This English position was a great fit \u2013\nfilling a need for both institutions,\u201d said Seminole State College President\nLana Reynolds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added, \u201cSSC and ECU have a long history of\nworking together to provide academic and cultural programs for the students and\ncommunities in our area.&nbsp; I appreciate\nDr. Pierson\u2019s leadership in making this shared employment possible.&nbsp; We look forward to working with our friends\nand colleagues in Ada on additional joint efforts in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Katricia G. Pierson, President of East\nCentral University, said, \u201cEfficiency and excellence have been a part of the\nSeminole State College and East Central University partnership for years and we\nare happy that it\u2019s being enhanced. Seminole State has much to offer and ECU\nhas always been an extension of students desiring to further their education.\nWorking with President Reynolds and her staff is always a positive process. Our\nongoing collaboration to create a smooth transition for students seeking an\neducation degree has solidified our partnerships and we knew we could even do\nmore. We are now sharing a faculty member for our English programs. Sharing\nresources is good for both institutions and, more importantly, is good for the\nstudents we serve.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beginning in August, Jamie Worthley will start\nworking as a full-time English instructor for both SSC and ECU. Recognizing\nthat the needs of one institution may be greater than the other at any given\ntime, Worthley will devote approximately 40 percent of her services to ECU and\n60 percent to SSC. As part of the collaboration, Worthley will teach 15 hours\nof language arts courses each year for SSC and hold office hours on campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Worthley, who has taught part-time in the English\nDepartments of both institutions, is a graduate of Paden High School. Previously,\nshe worked as an English tutor for SSC for five years. She also worked as an\nUpward Bound Composition Instructor for two years at ECU. She has been an\nadjunct professor at SSC for six years and ECU for five years. She holds an\nAssociate\u2019s degree from Seminole State College and a Bachelor\u2019s in English from\nEast Central University.&nbsp; She received a\nMaster of Arts in Composition Rhetoric from the University of Central Oklahoma\nin Edmond in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Worthley\u2019s full-time employment will begin on\nAugust 12.
