The Seminole State College Board of Regents met Oct. 24 for their monthly meeting. The Board reviewed the College\u2019s annual external audit report, approved updates to Board policies, approved a new policy to further protect the personal information of students and approved pursuing an energy savings contract.<\/p>\n\n\n
The meeting opened with a review of\nthe College\u2019s recent expenditures. Then SSC President Lana Reynolds presented\nher President\u2019s Report, which included a personnel update and information about\ncampus activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ten action items were approved by the\nBoard. First, the Board approved the 2019 fiscal year external audit conducted\nby the Finley and Cook accounting firm. Prior to the meeting, representatives\nof Finley and Cook met with the Board\u2019s audit committee, consisting of Regents\nPaige Sherry, Curtis Morgan and Ray McQuiston. The accounting firm communicated\nthat they found no significant deficiencies or material weaknesses. They issued\nan unqualified, \u201cclean,\u201d audit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Board then approved three updates\nto Board policy. The first updated the name of the institution\u2019s accrediting\nbody from the North Central Accreditation Association of Schools and Colleges\nto the Higher Learning Commission. The second changed the title of a policy on ownership\nof materials produced by college employees to include the terminology\n\u201cIntellectual Property.\u201d The last update to Board policy added the wording\n\u201cacademic freedom\u201d to the Board\u2019s \u201cExpressive Activity Policy.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Next, the Board approved a policy underscoring\nthe further protection of student personal data. This policy will help the\nCollege meet required guidelines of the audit guide for student financial aid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Board then reviewed and selected\nEnergy Solutions Professionals (ESP) as a potential partner for a\nperformance-based energy savings contract for the College. A sub-committee of\nthe Board, comprised of Regents Curtis Morgan and Kim Hyden had met several\ntimes over the past two months with Vice President for Fiscal Affairs Tony\nCrouch and President Reynolds to evaluate the services of energy-saving\ncompanies. The Board will consider a possible contract with ESP at a future\ndate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Board then affirmed the College\u2019s official\ncolors \u2014 Pantone ruby red, blue and white \u2014 and affirmed the College\u2019s\nInstitutional Beliefs and Commitments, Vision and General Education Outcomes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every two years, the Board reviews\nthe exchange of services with the SSC Educational Foundation. The agreement was\napproved by the Foundation Board of Trustees on Oct. 23. The Regents also\napproved this agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Consent Agenda included one item,\nthe acceptance of the SSC Annual Report of Student Assessment of Activity for\n2018-2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Board members present at the meeting were:\nCurtis Morgan, Marci Donaho, Ray McQuiston, Paige Sherry and Kim Hyden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
