{"id":1594,"date":"2019-11-01T08:19:59","date_gmt":"2019-11-01T14:19:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/?p=1594"},"modified":"2019-11-05T08:32:05","modified_gmt":"2019-11-05T14:32:05","slug":"ssc-educational-foundation-to-hold-groundbreaking-for-new-sports-complex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/ssc-educational-foundation-to-hold-groundbreaking-for-new-sports-complex\/","title":{"rendered":"SSC Educational Foundation to Hold Groundbreaking  for New Sports Complex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Seminole State College Educational Foundation will host a groundbreaking ceremony on campus for the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex on Nov. 7 at the Utterback Ballroom located within the Enoch Kelly Haney Center at 2:30 p.m.<!--more--><\/p>\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The event is open to the public and will\nfeature brief comments from SSC President Lana Reynolds, SSC Educational\nFoundation Chairman Lance Wortham, SSC President Emeritus Dr. Jim Utterback and\nCal Ripken Sr. Foundation Senior Vice President Chuck Brady. Light refreshments\nwill be served at the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The complex will be constructed approximately\nhalf of a mile west of the SSC campus on Highway 9, adjacent to the new\nSeminole High School site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1527\" height=\"476\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Complex-Prototype.png?fit=788%2C245\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Complex-Prototype.png 1527w, https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Complex-Prototype-300x94.png 300w, https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Complex-Prototype-768x239.png 768w, https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Complex-Prototype-1024x319.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Complex-Prototype-50x16.png 50w, https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Complex-Prototype-788x246.png 788w, https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Complex-Prototype-500x156.png 500w, https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Complex-Prototype-1000x312.png 1000w, https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Complex-Prototype-800x249.png 800w, https:\/\/www.sscok.edu\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Complex-Prototype-1320x411.png 1320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1527px) 100vw, 1527px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The first phase will be a 7.25\nmillion-dollar project and will include a Trojan baseball stadium and field,\ntraining facility, lighting, artificial turf, area landscaping, site dirt\npreparation, restrooms, snack bar, press box, parking, and a youth multi-use\nfield that can be used for baseball, softball or soccer. The complex will\nprovide a new home for the Trojan women\u2019s soccer team. An economic development\ngrant from the State of Oklahoma will help with the initial phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Additional phases of the project will\ninclude two youth baseball\/softball fields, a parking lot extension, a combo\nfield, a dedicated soccer field, additional restrooms, an additional snack bar\nand a maintenance building. The Foundation approved proceeding with these\nphases as additional funds are raised for the project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Brian Crawford Memorial Foundation\nkick-started fundraising efforts two years ago with a lead donation to begin\nwork on the complex. Additional major gifts for the project have been secured\nfrom the City of Seminole, the Seminole Tourism Council, Seminole Sonic and the\nKinslow family, the Parks Family, Roger E. Parks Heart and Stroke Foundation\nand Citizen Potawatomi Nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Seminole State College President Lana\nReynolds said she is appreciative of Seminole State College Educational Foundation\nTrustees and funding partners for their efforts to see this project\nthrough.&nbsp; \u201cIt has been a rather long\nroad, but the Trustees, SSC Regents and our financial donors have stuck with us\nto get this project going.&nbsp; The land is\nsecured, the initial funding in place and formal arrangements have been made\nwith the Cal Ripken, Sr., Foundation and Fields, Inc., for the development of\nthe project,\u201d Reynolds said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Founded to honor the legacy and life\nof Cal Ripken, Sr., a longtime coach and mentor, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation\nprepares at-risk youth for life\u2019s challenges by teaching them critical life\nskills. Through transformational at-risk youth programs and multipurpose parks,\nthey create safe opportunities for youth in need to develop valuable life\nskills, build character, connect positively with local law enforcement, and\nlearn how to make productive choices for their future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; By partnering with youth-serving\norganizations and schools across the country, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation\nprovides educational life skills curriculum for adult mentors to use to better\nengage and teach children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; SSC President Emeritus, Dr. Jim\nUtterback, who has directed the development of the project for the SSC\nEducational Foundation, said the complex will change the face of Seminole.\nUtterback said, \u201cThe economic impact of this facility and park will be\ntremendous for our area.&nbsp; It will be a\ngreat home for the SSC Trojans \u2060\u2014 a perennial national powerhouse in\ncollegiate baseball.&nbsp; It will also be a\ndestination for thousands of college and high school students, as well as youth\nplaying various sports, along with the scores of family and friends who follow\nthem.&nbsp; We are excited to see construction\non this project get under way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Seminole State College\nEducational Foundation was established in 1972 to provide support for the\nCollege, its programs and students.&nbsp; Each\nyear, the Foundation provides approximately $100,000 in scholarships to SSC\nstudents. Additionally, in recent years, the Foundation has assisted with the\nbuilding of the Roesler and Seminole Nation Residential Learning Centers, the\ndevelopment of the Henderson Park area, the Ben and Bonnie Walkingstick Student\nServices Center and the Dan and Andrea Boren Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Foundation is led by 29 business\nand community leaders from throughout the College\u2019s five-county service area\nand beyond.
