Concert pianist Peter Simon will entertain area residents at a free public concert at Seminole State College on Monday evening, November 18.\u00a0 The \u201cClassy Piano Favorites\u201d program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Utterback Ballroom of the Enoch Kelly Haney Center on campus. <\/p>\n\n\n

In his\ncontinuing effort to increase audience attendance and enjoyment, Simon has\ncreated a program that includes many treasured piano songs, including\n\u201cMoonlight Sonata,\u201d \u201cClair du Lune,\u201d \u201cSabre Dance,\u201d \u201cThe Entertainer,\u201d \u201cMalaguena\u201d\nand \u201cRhapsody in Blue.\u201d The concert is scheduled to last approximately an hour\nan fifteen minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his\nvisit to Seminole, Simon will also be entertaining area school children during\ntwo daytime concerts scheduled for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on November 19. For more\ninformation about these concerts, please contact the SSC President\u2019s Office at\n405-382-9200.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simon has\nestablished himself as one of America\u2019s finest musicians and most distinctive\nand versatile musical personalities.  In\nreaching the heights of his profession, he has accomplished the rare artistic\nfeat of generating both critical acclaim and widespread audience\nenthusiasm.  As the last student of the\nlegendary pianist Jorge Bolet, Simon has performed in major concert halls,\nincluding the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall, American Embassies, cruise\nships and hundreds of small communities across America.  He has also toured Europe as well as five\ntours of Asia, primarily in Japan and South Korea.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simon enjoys\ncreating \u201cthemed programs\u201d to increase audience interest and has performed a\none-man play called \u201cFranz Liszt Live,\u201d as pianist\/orator in \u201cThe Music &\nPoetry of Love\u201d and \u201cThe Spiritual Music of the Great Composers.\u201d  He has been featured on two public television\nspecials: \u201cProfiles & Performances\u201d and \u201cCulture in the Country\u201d as well as\nhis own three-part television series \u201cPeter Simon & Friends.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simon has a\nfirm belief that classical music is meant for everyone regardless of age or\nbackground, and devotes much of his time performing outreach programs for\nnumerous school districts as well as being a guest speaker on the importance of\nthe arts in education and everyday life for various civic and social\norganizations.      <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These concerts\nare being hosted by the SSC Educational Foundation and the Oklahoma Arts\nCouncil. The Oklahoma Arts Council is the official state agency for the support\nand development of the arts. The agency\u2019s mission is to lead in the advancement\nof Oklahoma\u2019s thriving arts industry. The Oklahoma Arts Council provides more\nthan 400 grants to nearly 225 organizations in communities statewide each year,\norganizes professional development opportunities for the state\u2019s arts and\ncultural industry and manages works of art in the Oklahoma Public Art\nCollection and the public spaces of the state Capitol.
