Seminole State College students recently attended \u201cUnderstanding Disabilities in the Workplace,\u201d a career development program presented by South Central Industries Executive Director Tina Hanna. The event was sponsored by Student Support Services and STEM Student Support Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe workplace \u2013 and the workforce \u2013 is always changing and we need to learn to change with it. Presentations like this one show that diversity and inclusivity are necessary for progress. I am so pleased to know that an organization like South Central Services exists \u2013 and exists in Oklahoma,\u201d SSS Advisor Megan Goff said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Students in attendance gained a greater knowledge of educational and occupational opportunities for individuals with disabilities, advocating for self and others regarding disabilities and the types of services provided to individuals with disabilities by South Central Industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDuring the presentation, I learned that there is technology that can assist in helping people with disabilities complete their jobs,\u201d Ashley Pearson, a sophomore Computer Science major from Shawnee, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Seminole State College SSS Project is 100% federally funded in the amount of $294,725 annually. The Seminole State College STEM SSS Project is 100 percent federally funded in the amount of $261,888 annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SSS and STEM SSS are two federally funded grants that are hosted at SSC. Both Projects serve first-generation, economically disadvantaged, and disabled students.
