Two Seminole State College employees were recognized for their hard work and dedication during the monthly Seminole Chamber of Commerce Forum on Oct. 11. Assistant Professor of Life Science Theran Hernandez was honored as \u201cFaculty Member of the Month\u201d and Financial Assistance Clerk Caitlin Brown was honored as \u201cClassified Staff Member of the Month.\u201d The Seminole Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, along with the Lions Club and Blue Ribbon Realty, recognize SSC employees several times during Forum each year. Individuals are nominated from across the campus and chosen by SSC administrators to receive the honor.<\/p>\n

\"Theran<\/a>

Theran Hernandez<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

Hernandez began working for SSC in 2011 as a part of the TRiO program and soon afterward transitioned into the role of coordinator for the Upward Bound program. In 2012, she became an Educational Talent Search Advisor and also served as an adjunct instructor. In 2015, she was hired as full-time faculty.<\/p>\n

As a life science professor, she currently teaches Principles of Biology, General Biology, Human Anatomy and Botany. She also serves on the Seminole Alumni Board and the Seminole County Community Action Board.<\/p>\n

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Langston University, a Master of Science from Grand Canyon University and a Master of Science from the University of Nebraska in Kearney.<\/p>\n

Hernandez and her husband, Markevric, reside in Seminole. The couple have two children, Akeya, 12, and John, 7.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Caitlin Brown<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

While attending Seminole High School, Brown took several concurrent classes at SSC. She went on to attend Oklahoma City University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology.<\/p>\n

At SSC, Brown currently serves as the Vice President of the Classified Staff Association.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She is a resident of Seminole and is proud of her family\u2019s longstanding ties to the college. Her mother, Damaris Haney, has worked at the College for 19 years and many of her family members have attended SSC. Her grandfather Enoch Kelly Haney, former Oklahoma State Senator and renowned artist, is the namesake of the Enoch Kelly Haney Center on campus.<\/p>\n

Outside of work, Brown enjoys drawing and playing with her dogs. She also likes to try new things and is currently learning how to play the piano, paint and scrapbook.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
