SSC Student Support Programs Host First to Finish Panel

The Seminole State College Student Support Services Programs recently hosted a “First to Finish” event on campus featuring a panel of three individuals, all first in their family to graduate from college.

During the program, the three panelists shared their personal experiences as first-generation college students by answering a series of questions. They discussed fear and other obstacles encountered during their college journeys and how they were able to overcome those barriers. Panelists also discussed the importance of setting and achieving goals along the path to completing a college degree. Audience members also had the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the event.

SSC Art Club Visits ECU Fine Arts Center

Seminole State College Art Club students recently took a field trip to visit the Hallie Ford Fine Arts Center at East Central University in Ada.

Upon arrival, SSC students were welcomed by ECU Director of Fine Arts Dr. Brad Jessop and Professor of Graphic Design John Dougherty. Innovative Educators

Several Seminole State College faculty from the STEM Division were invited to present at the Innovative Educators Summit in Charleston, S.C., an event attended by educators from across the nation. Their presentation on “Implementing Corequisites to Support Math Pathways” shared the teams experience from the past year as the STEM curriculum made the transition to corequisites and math pathway courses.  Continue reading “Innovative Educators”

SSC Supporters Attend Regional Legislative Tour

Supporters of Seminole State College were guests at the Southeast Oklahoma Legislative Tour hosted by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education last week in McAlester.

Dr. Glen D. Johnson, Chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education, met with the group of area legislators and friends of higher education to discuss the importance of higher education in improving the economy and business climate of the state. Eskimo Joe CEO

The Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class recently travelled to Eskimo Joe’s in Stillwater where they enjoyed lunch and visited with Founder and CEO Stan Clark. Clark shared the story of how the business began and how it has progressed over the years. Learning How to Print…

During their visit to Stillwater, the PLC students also toured the Eskimo Joe’s Promotional Products Group facility. The group got a behind the scenes look at how the company designs and creates shirts, hats and other promotional items. They learned each step of the process, from sourcing to printing to distribution.

SSC Emeritus Status Honorees to be Recognized

Five former Seminole State College employees will be recommended for Emeritus status next week during the College’s Board of Regents meeting on Thursday, March 15.  A special afternoon reception recognizing these employees will follow the meeting, beginning at 2 p.m. in the Haney Center Utterback Ballroom.
