SSC Event Blends Athletics and Support for Adult Learners

Seminole State College will host a Reach Higher: Draft Day enrollment event on Monday, Dec. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Raymond Harber Fieldhouse to help working adults return to college and complete their degrees.

“We understand returning to college can be overwhelming especially for adult students,” Laura Votaw, SSC Coordinator of Distance Education, said. “The Reach Higher event is designed to make that process approachable and fun.”

The come-and-go event will connect adult learners with SSC staff to discuss transfer credits, flexible class formats and individualized paths to graduation. Attendees will receive free admission to the SSC men’s basketball game against Clarendon College, along with concession stand vouchers, and will have the opportunity to meet and take photos with student-athletes from multiple sports.

Members of the Seminole State College men’s basketball team will take part in Reach Higher: Draft Day on Monday, Dec. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Raymond Harber Fieldhouse, where working adults can learn about scholarships and degree options and meet Trojan athletes from other SSC sports.

Reach Higher: Draft Day is part of Oklahoma’s Reach Higher adult degree completion initiative, which provides flexible degree options and targeted support for adults who have earned some college credit but have not yet finished a degree. Through the Reach Higher Finish Line Scholarship, eligible students may receive at least $500 per semester in scholarship support, with awards at SSC totaling up to $5,000 over five semesters to help cover tuition, fees and learning materials.

At Seminole State, the Reach Higher Finish Line Scholarship is available to adult Oklahoma residents who are within roughly 45 credit hours of graduation, maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and enroll in three or more credit hours, with preference given to students taking six or more hours. Completion of the FAFSA is encouraged.
