SSC Delivers Holiday Cards to VA Hospital

Starting on Veterans Day, November 11 through Nov. 30, SSC students, faculty, staff, community supporters, and administration signed thank you and happy holiday messages on festive cards, which in turn were delivered to veterans in the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City. This year more than 200 cards were signed with heartfelt notes of appreciation and holiday cheer.

Ms. Overfield expressed her thanks on behalf of the patients and those who volunteer at the hospital.

Professor Osby said, “This project is so appreciated by the veterans and is a small way spread some holiday cheer while sharing our heartfelt appreciation for their sacrifices and service. How fortunate we are to all veterans at this special time of year and always.”

Nursing Program Graduates Recognized at SSC Pinning Ceremony

Seminole State College held a pinning ceremony at the Enoch Kelly Haney Center on Dec. 8 for 25 nursing students expected to meet degree requirements this semester.

Due to the program’s continued growth, this marked the fourth year the College has hosted a pinning ceremony in the fall. Graduates from both the traditional program and the fully online program that launched last year participated in the program.

SSC Shooting Sports Club Hosts Fundraiser

SSC Shooting club members are shown participating in the second annual SSC Shooting Sports Club Fundraiser.

The Seminole State College Shooting Sports Club hosted its Second Annual Fundraiser Shoot on Dec. 2. The event took place at Clay Bird Sports in Bethel Acres and featured more than 40 teams, competing in High School Junior, High School Senior, and Open divisions for Sporting Clays. Seminole State Agriculture Assistant Professor Wendy Rich and Social Sciences Professor Jeffrey Christiansen serve as the club’s faculty sponsors and organized the event, along with club members Turner Dean, Mark Ellis, and Logan Jones. Proceeds from the fundraiser will allow the club to compete in regional and national competitions.

SSC Provides Christmas Gifts to Local Children

Seminole State College employees recently provided gifts to 26 children participating in the Angel Tree programs sponsored by the Salvation Army and the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. The Angel Tree program connects donors with children in need. SSC employees purchased clothing and toys and donated the items. Providing gifts to children in the Angel Tree program has been an annual tradition at SSC since 1997. SSC Athletes Wrap Gifts for Rotary Dinner

Seminole State College student-athletes and coaches volunteered their time this week to wrap more than 200 gifts for the annual Earl Knowles free community Christmas dinner, organized by the Seminole Rotary Club.

The presents wrapped by SSC athletes will be distributed at the community dinner on Sunday, December 25 at the Senior Citizen’s Heritage House at 210 W. College. Arrangements may also be made to have the gifts and meals delivered to homes by calling 405-382-3640 prior to Christmas Eve.

SSC’s Night at the Lights a Success

Seminole State College Athletes, Coaches, Faculty and Staff assist community children with arts and crafts projects at the SSC annual Night at the Lights event on Dec. 5 at Magnolia Park in Seminole.

Seminole State College hosted its annual Night at the Lights event on Dec. 5 at Magnolia Park in Seminole. Local families enjoyed the community Snowman Wonderland light display, as well as cookies and hot chocolate provided by the College. Dozens of SSC student athletes manned crafting stations inside the Reynolds Wellness Center, helping children create crafts.

SSC Employees Complete Healthy and Happy Challenge

The Seminole State College Wellness Committee participate in a Yoga session led by Main Street Yoga owner Lauren Schatzel.

The Seminole State College Wellness Committee organized a Healthy and Happy Challenge throughout the month of November for employees. The challenge was comprised of daily tasks to encourage a healthier lifestyle. Tasks ranged from increasing water intake to dancing like nobody is watching. The event concluded with 30-minute yoga session led by Main Street Yoga owner Lauren Schatzel, a luncheon and a prize drawing for participants.

SSC to Host Night at the Lights

Seminole State College will host its annual Night at the Lights on Monday, Dec. 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Reynolds Wellness Center. The event is free and open to the public. Guests may enjoy making holiday crafts with SSC athletes taking in the “Snowman Wonderland” light display in Magnolia Park. Free hot chocolate and cookies will be served.

SSC Welcomes Retirees Back to Campus

Seminole State College welcomed 25 retirees back to campus for a luncheon in their honor on Dec. 1 in the Utterback Ballroom of the Enoch Kelly Haney Center.

“We were thrilled to see so many former employees who dedicated most, and in some cases all, of their professional careers to this College. They played an important role in the growth and development of the institution. We wanted to thank them for their service and invite them to reconnect and stay involved with SSC,” President Lana Reynolds said.
