Seminole State College Student Government Association members attended the Oklahoma Student Government Spring Congress this weekend at the State Capitol. Students completed workshops and visited committee meetings where new resolutions were developed in order to be introduced as new legislation.
Kansas City Art Institute Representative Meets with SSC Students

Julia Welles, a representative from the Kansas City Art Institute, visited the Seminole State College campus recently and spoke to art students about the institute’s expanding program in visual arts. She discussed different programs of study, which include traditional studio art programs such as painting, printmaking, and sculpture as well as creative writing, fiber, filmmaking, graphic design, illustration and animation. SSC Art Club Visits Local Accomplished Artist
Seminole State College Art Club students visited the studio of professional ceramicist Paul Pfrehm recently to learn his process of horse hair raku ceramic firing. Pfrehm, an artist who has a working ceramic studio in Seminole, has shown his artwork in six different galleries in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Hanan Attends Nigh Leadership Academy
Area Seminole State College student McKenna Hanan of Seminole, Okla. recently attended the Nigh Institute Leadership Academy held in Oklahoma City.
Hanan received a George and Donna Nigh Public Service Scholarship this year through the Nigh Institute program funded by the Oklahoma Legislature. During the leadership academy, students visited with members of the House of Representatives and the Senate and attended sessions concerning Oklahoma’s local government, government relations, the national election, public policy and Oklahoma’s economic future. SSC Class Enjoys Drone Demonstration
Captain Ken Vanduser of the Pottawatomie County Sherrif’s Office (center) demonstrates how law enforcement utilizes drone technology to Adjunct Instructor Dee Vanduser’s Intro to Sociology class on the Seminole State College campus Nov. 15. The drone is capable of traveling nearly 1.5 miles and includes thermal imaging and a powerful digital zoom. It is valued at $13,000. SSC Hosts Speech Tournament
Seminole State College hosted its inaugural Trojan Speech and Debate Tournament earlier this month. A total of 14 high schools from across the state participated in the event, including Ardmore, Durant, McAlester, Byng, Madill, Mannford, Meeker, Muldrow, Seminole, Prague, Haskell, Kiefer, Liberty and Talihina.
