Senator Lankford Meets with SSC Students Before Chamber Forum

United States Senator James Lankford spoke with a Seminole State College nursing class on April 7. Senator Lankford thanked the students for taking an interest in the profession and stressed the need for nurses. Following his discussion with the students, Senator Lankford was the featured speaker at the Seminole Chamber of Commerce Forum held in the Enoch Kelly Haney Center.

Fall Enrollment Opens at SSC; Campus to Return to Full, In-Person Instruction

Seminole Nation Donates Hand Sanitizer to SSC

Seminole State College Trojan baseball players worked with members of “A League of Their Own” at the Seminole Softball Quadruplex on April 5. The “League” is a co-ed softball league established to provide an avenue for individuals with cognitive or physical disabilities to play baseball. Trojan players volunteered for three games Monday night. They encouraged and assisted nearly 40 participants as they hit and ran the bases. The “League” is a co-ed softball league established to provide an avenue for individuals with cognitive or physical disabilities to play baseball. Trojan players volunteered for three games Monday night. They encouraged and assisted nearly 40 participants as they hit and ran the bases. The NJCAA recently honored Seminole State College Belles Women’s Basketball Head Coach Rita Story-Schell as the 2021 Region II Coach of the Year.

SSC Women’s Basketball Coach Named Coach of the Year

Seminole State College Belles Basketball Head Coach Rita Story-Schell was recently named the 2021 NJCAA Region II Coach of the Year. Story-Schell has led her team to a win-loss record of 15-4 this season. Pre-season predictions placed the Belles at sixth in Region II, however the team finished the regular season as conference champions and enters the Region II Tournament as the number one seed. The last time the team won a conference championship was 2007.

Pitts’ Appointment Confirmed by Senate Committee

Oklahoma State Senator Zack Taylor (left) and Seminole State College President Lana Reynolds (right) congratulate Ryan Pitts (center) following the approval of his appointment as a Regent for Seminole State College on April 6. Taylor (R-Seminole) carried the nomination of Pitts, who was appointed by Governor Kevin Stitt in July of 2020 to the complete the remainder of former Regent Paige Sherry’s term. Sherry stepped down in the spring when her husband, Jack Sherry, was appointed to the Board of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. Pitts resides in Wewoka and is the owner and senior attorney at the Law Offices of Ryan H. Pitts, P.C. in Holdenville. He also serves as a municipal judge for the city of Holdenville. Pitts’ nomination will be presented on the floor of the Senate for final confirmation.

Members of the Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class attended the OKC Philharmonic Pops Series presentation of “The Music of Queen” April 2 at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City. With a reduced number of symphonic performers and an audience of one-tenth of the Civic Center’s capacity, the students were able to experience the musical performance – combining classical and rock – in a socially-distanced setting.

SSC Women’s Basketball Team Wins Conference Championship

The Seminole State College Belles women’s basketball team won the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference title game on April 1. Pre-season predictions placed Seminole State College at sixth in Region II. The Belles demonstrated great effort and resolve as they battled tough competition. During the second half of conference play, the team gathered steam with each subsequent win and entered their final conference game with a nine-game win streak. Seminole State defeated NOC-Tonkawa 78-62 to solidify their first-place position. The Belles finished as regular season conference champions, a far cry from their initial sixth place seating. The last time the women’s basketball team brought home a conference championship was 2007.
