Library Hours Extended at SSC
Seminole State College’s Boren Library has extended its hours of operation to serve students in the evening two nights per week. Beginning this week, the Boren Library will be open 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Employees from Wrangler/Kontoor made a large donation of canned and other non-perishable food items to the Seminole State College Food Pantry recently. Members of the company’s Distribution Center Activities Committee organized the canned food drives for the SSC Food Pantry and Seminole’s community Interfaith Food Pantry.

Seminole State College has released the names of honor roll students for the 2020 fall semester. Three separate honor rolls recognize students for their academic achievements.
The President’s Honor Roll is comprised of students who maintain a perfect 4.0 grade-point-average in at least 12 credit hours of coursework.
Students named to the Vice President’s Honor Roll must have a 3.5 grade-point-average or better and no grade below a “C”.

Members of the Seminole State College President’s Leadership class met Thursday in honor of Martin Luther King Day. The group watched “The Green Book,” a film based on a true story about an African-American pianist, who embarks on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962 and hires a Caucasian driver for protection during a time of racism and segregation. President Lana Reynolds led a discussion with the students afterward, encouraging the group to share their thoughts on the film. She also asked them to continue to serve as leaders on campus and how they could be a positive voice against injustice and discrimination.

The Seminole State College Board of Regents met Jan. 21 to consider a recommendation to hire a professional auditing service and to review the terms of President Lana Reynolds’ employment.
The meeting opened with a review of the College’s recent expenditures by Vice President for Fiscal Affairs Courtney Jones. Later in the meeting, Jones joined Ed Lemmings, Director of Physical Plant and Campus Safety, in presenting an update on deferred maintenance issues. The College is reviewing and exploring funding options to address high priority projects, including repairs to the roof on the Raymond Harber Field House, replacement of heat and air systems and parking lot renovations.

Seminole State College’s Boren Library has launched a new laptop loan program to assist students with their technology needs. With a growing number of students enrolling in online or hybrid courses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the College wanted to offer the program to remove a financial barrier that students may face. The devices were purchased with funds SSC received from the federal CARES Act.

Seminole State College held an N95 mask fitting for employees Thursday afternoon and will hold a second session on Jan. 13 in the Enoch Kelly Haney Center’s Utterback Ballroom. The masks were made available to all employees through a second round of COVID-19 federal funds dispersed to the College in late 2020.
