SSC Athletes Wrap Gifts for Rotary Dinner
Seminole State College student-athletes and coaches volunteered their time this week to wrap over 600 gifts for the upcoming Rotary Christmas Dinner. The presents will be distributed at the annual community dinner on Tuesday, December 25 at the Senior Citizen’s Heritage House at 210 W. College. Arrangements may also be made to have the gifts and meals delivered to homes by calling 405-382-3640 prior to Christmas Eve.
Seminole State College Plans for the Future
Seminole State College is currently working to develop a new multi-year strategic plan for the entire institution – a plan to help guide the development of new academic and sports programs, the physical needs of campus and related budget matters. SSC’s Night at the Lights a Success
Seminole State College hosted its annual “SSC Night at the Lights” event Dec. 3 at Magnolia Park in Seminole. Local families enjoyed the community Snowman Wonderland Light Display, as well as live music, cookies and hot chocolate provided by the College. Dozens of SSC student athletes manned crafting stations inside the Reynolds Wellness Center, helping children create holiday crafts. SSC Hosts Finals Eve Pizza Party
Seminole State College faculty and staff members hosted a “Finals Eve Pizza Party” for residence hall students late Monday night. Among those serving were: Enrollment Management Clerk Stacey Foster, Faculty Senate President Angela Church, Belles Basketball Coach Rita Story-Schell, and Women’s Softball Coach Amber Flores. Pictured enjoying their late-night pizza snack while taking a break from studying were Summer Jones, sophomore from Edmond, and Victoria Vickers, sophomore from Oklahoma City. Final exams began Dec. 4 at SSC and will conclude on Dec. 7. Enrollment is under way for the Spring, 2019 semester, which begins Jan. 14.
Reynolds Named to AACC Commission
Seminole State College President Lana Reynolds has been selected to serve on the American Association of Community Colleges’ (AACC) Commission on Small and Rural Colleges. The Commission, composed of Presidents of 13 Community Colleges from across the nation, recently convened for an inaugural two-day meeting in November in Washington, D.C. SSC Class Enjoys Drone Demonstration
Captain Ken Vanduser of the Pottawatomie County Sherrif’s Office (center) demonstrates how law enforcement utilizes drone technology to Adjunct Instructor Dee Vanduser’s Intro to Sociology class on the Seminole State College campus Nov. 15. The drone is capable of traveling nearly 1.5 miles and includes thermal imaging and a powerful digital zoom. It is valued at $13,000. SSC Hosts Speech Tournament
Seminole State College hosted its inaugural Trojan Speech and Debate Tournament earlier this month. A total of 14 high schools from across the state participated in the event, including Ardmore, Durant, McAlester, Byng, Madill, Mannford, Meeker, Muldrow, Seminole, Prague, Haskell, Kiefer, Liberty and Talihina.
