SSC Board of Regents Appoints New Officers

The Seminole State College Board of Regents convened Aug. 15 for their monthly meeting. The Board held an election of officers, approved a revision to a non-discrimination policy and reviewed and approved institutional documents related to the College’s mission.

At the beginning of the meeting, Marci Donaho was recognized for serving as Chair for the 2018-2019 school year. She was reappointed to the Board for another seven-year term on April 1 by Governor Kevin Stitt and confirmed by the Senate Education Committee on April 30. With her new term beginning this month, she was sworn in by Seminole attorney Brad Carter at the meeting.

Then the Board reviewed expenditures for the months of June and July. Then SSC President Lana Reynolds presented her President’s Report, which included a personnel update, enrollment report and information about campus activities.

Three action items were approved by the Board. First, the Board held its election of officers. The Board approved the selection of Regent Curtis Morgan as Chair, Ryan Franklin as Vice Chair and Ray McQuiston as Secretary.

Second on the action agenda, the Board approved a revision to a campus non-discrimination policy. In compliance with federal civil rights law, the Board updated its non-discrimination policy by removing a section titled “Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action” and replacing it with a new section entitled “Non-Discrimination Policy.”

Lastly, the Board reviewed institutional documents related to the College’s mission. For Higher Learning Commission accreditation purposes, the Board reaffirmed SSC’s Mission Statement, CORE Values and Function.

The College’s Mission Statement reads, “Seminole State College empowers people for academic success, personal development and lifelong learning.”

The College’s CORE Values are: “COMPASSION: celebrating a diverse campus, local and global community of people and displaying professionalism and compassion in all interactions; OPPORTUNITY: presenting current trends and future possibilities for career, academic and personal enrichment; RESPECT: building mutual respect, integrity, and confidence for ourselves, for others and for the environment; EXCELLENCE: continually striving to achieve the highest standards and exhibit excellence in our programs and relationships with all stakeholders.”

The Board approved these items with no change.

Board members present at the meeting were: Bryan Cain, Marci Donaho, Ray McQuiston, Curtis Morgan and Kim Hyden.

The next regularly-scheduled SSC Board of Regents meeting is set for Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019.
