Seminole State College will host Reach Higher Reconnect Week July 19-July 22 on campus. The event features giveaways, extended enrollment hours and informational tables set up to help prospective students with the admissions process. The event is geared toward working adults and non-traditional students, but all students are welcome to participate.

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) recently approved a request from Seminoles State College and ten other institutions to offer an Associate of Applied Science in Applied Technology. The statewide pilot collaborative program provides a degree completion mechanism for adult learners who have received an industry-recognized credential, earned previous college credit in a technical field or require specialized interdisciplinary training.

Seminole State College is clearing the outstanding balance on more than 660 student accounts through direct scholarships. This move was made possible through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II (HEERF II) monies the College received to offset financial difficulties created by the COVID-19 pandemic. The College is committing $715,000 of these federal funds to clear account balances students incurred for tuition and fees during the pandemic.

Forty student-athletes and six athletic teams at Seminole State College have been recognized for their outstanding academic achievements this year by the National Junior College Athletic Association. The NJCAA All-American Student Athlete Awards are divided into the three groups based on grade point average – First Team requires a 4.0 GPA, Second Team requires a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99, and Third Team requires a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79.

Seminole State College Trojan Soccer Head Coach Daniel Hill was recently named the 2021 NJCAA Region II Coach of the Year. Hill has led his team to a win-loss record of 13-1 this season. Pre-season predictions placed the Trojans at seventh in the Nation. The team finished the regular season as conference champions and Region II Tournament champions.

Seminole State College graduate Asa Samuels will begin his internship through the Haskell Environmental Research Studies (HERS) program at the University of Kansas on June 6. The HERS program prepares tribal college students for graduate school and helps students meet the challenges of climate and environmental change. The paid internship spans eight weeks in Lawrence, Kansas. Students spend six weeks in the classroom learning about climate change and developing individual research projects. For the final two weeks, interns conduct independent research at the University of Kansas, Haskell Indian Nations University or in the field. During the academic year, HERS interns will have several opportunities to present their research at professional meetings, workshops and symposia across the country.

Seminole State College hosted a send-off for its women’s soccer team on May 31 outside of the Raymond Harber Field House. The team is traveling to Evans, Georgia to compete in the NJCAA Division I Women’s Soccer National Championship. Gift bags and snacks were given to the players. Community members and SSC employees were on site to show their support and bid the team farewell.
