Seminole State College will host two enrollment events this weekend for prospective students and their families.

Enrollment Extravaganza will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 1, in the Walkingstick Building on the SSC campus. The event will include scholarship opportunities, Kona Ice snow cones, a food truck, a popcorn bar and a scavenger hunt.

Walk-ins are welcome, and attendees may register in advance at sscok.edu.

Enrollment Extravaganza is hosted by SSC Enrollment Services and three federal grant programs: Student Support Services, Upward Bound and Talent Search.

“This event is designed to take the stress out of getting started at SSC,” Director of Enrollment Management Edith Cathey said. “By mixing food, fun and helpful one-on-one support, we hope to streamline the enrollment process and make first generation students feel confident about taking their next step.”

SSC also will host Reach Higher: Launch Your Future, a free family fun and scholarship night, from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at Play Space in Shawnee.

The event will offer families information about college planning, enrollment and financial aid, along with free activities. Children will have access to free playtime at the space-themed indoor playground, while adults can meet with SSC academic advisors and financial aid specialists.

Participants also will receive a food voucher for B’s Smokehouse, a complimentary drink from Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee and a free Reach Higher T-shirt while supplies last.

“We want families to know that higher education is within reach,” Coordinator of Distance Education Laura Votaw said. “This event creates a welcoming, family-friendly setting where prospective students of all ages can explore their options, ask questions and connect with people who are ready to help them move forward.”
