The Seminole State College Language Arts and Humanities Division recently received a donation of $500 to aid in the continuation of its annual Howlers and Yawpers Creativity Symposium. Seminole State College President Lana Reynolds was one of several community guest readers to visit Wilson Elementary School last week. President Reynolds stopped by Mrs. Sonia Scott’s third grade class to read “If I Ran the Zoo” by Dr. Seuss as part of the national birthday celebration of the children’s book author.
Five former Seminole State College employees will be recommended for Emeritus status Feb. 21 to the College’s Board of Regents. A special afternoon reception will be held for those who are awarded the status of Emeritus by the Board at 2:30 p.m. in the Dan and Andrea Boren Center on campus. The Seminole Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted Friday to support community efforts to retain local governing board control of Seminole State College. In a joint effort, Seminole State College, the Brian Crawford Memorial, the City of Seminole and the Seminole Tourism Council will host the Seminole Hoops Classic Saturday, Dec. 22, and Sunday, Dec. 23, at the Reynolds Wellness Center. Seminole State College student-athletes and coaches volunteered their time this week to wrap over 600 gifts for the upcoming Rotary Christmas Dinner. The presents will be distributed at the annual community dinner on Tuesday, December 25 at the Senior Citizen’s Heritage House at 210 W. College. Arrangements may also be made to have the gifts and meals delivered to homes by calling 405-382-3640 prior to Christmas Eve.
Seminole State College is currently working to develop a new multi-year strategic plan for the entire institution – a plan to help guide the development of new academic and sports programs, the physical needs of campus and related budget matters.
