The Seminole State College GEAR UP program was notified by the National Council for Community and Educational Partnerships (NCCEP) to select seven students and one alternate to attend the National Youth Leadership Summit (YLS). The YLS was set to take place in July and held in Washington DC. Students completed an application process, which included a parent permission form, submitting copies of academic transcripts, recommendations from school personnel and essays. The following students were selected: Brogan Culwell of Asher, Giulietta Cook of Konawa, Reiden Walker of Okemah, Benjamin Foster and Brooke Stanley of Prague, Madison Hinkle and Austyn White-Richards of Varnum, and Jackson Reid of Wetumka. Four Students Receive Don Gill Scholarship at SSC
Four students residing in Seminole County were recently awarded the Don Gill Scholarship at Seminole State College.
The four recipients are Britlee Morris of Wewoka, Hannah Potter of Seminole, Taegan Freeman of Seminole and Alexandra Newton of Seminole. Morris graduated from New Lima High School earlier this spring. Potter is a recent graduate of Varnum High School. Freeman and Newton are returning SSC students. SSC Receives Ten-Year Accreditation
Seminole State College received official notification Monday from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of its “Reaffirmation of Accreditation” that will continue until 2029-2030. This ten-year accreditation was the result of a multi-year preparation of a self-study Assurance Review. The process culminated in a site visit by an HLC team in late February. SSC Students Named to All-Oklahoma Academic Team
Three Seminole State College students were recently named to the All Oklahoma USA Academic Team by the Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges.

SSC Recognizes Outstanding Language Arts and Humanities Student
Seminole State College sophomore Connor Buchanan, of Seminole, was recently named the Outstanding Language Arts and Humanities Student for the 2019-2020 academic year. The Seminole State Educational Foundation honors one student from each of the College’s five divisions at its annual Spring Recognition Banquet. Due to restrictions on large gatherings in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event has been postponed, but each student will be recognized at a later date. SSC Nursing Program Receives Continued Accreditation
The Seminole State College Nursing Program was recently granted continuing accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). The Board of Commissioners granted this accreditation to the College’s associate nursing program and scheduled the next evaluation visit for Fall of 2027.
