Applications are now open for Seminole State College’s Peek into Engineering Summer Camp. The residential camp is open to high school students enrolled in 9th through 12th grade in the fall of 2023. Students will spend July 23-July 28 on SSC’s campus, learning how to build underwater remote-operated vehicles.
The camp is offered for free to students through a grant from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. Space is limited, so applying early is encouraged.

Eleven Seminole State College students attended Oklahoma Promise Day at the State Capitol on April 11. Students had the opportunity to meet with legislators and state regents to discuss the scholarship program. Students also met with a featured speaker at the event and Chair of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Mike Turpen. Since its inception in 1992, Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship program has awarded college tuition scholarships to more than 100,000 students. To be eligible, students must apply during the eighth, ninth, tenth or 11th grade, and their family’s annual income must not exceed $60,000 when they apply. A student’s family income also must not exceed $100,000 each year the student is enrolled in college. Students must also meet academic and personal conduct requirements in high school.
Seminole State College will host a free two-day Reach Higher: Reconnect event to help working adults learn more about completing their degrees on Tuesday, April 11, and Wednesday, April 12.
Seminole State College recently sent two Phi Theta Kappa student officers, Abby Ridley and Hannah Ridley, alongside club advisors Andrew Davis and Edith Cathey, to the Oklahoma/Arkansas 2023 Regional Convention, hosted by Northeastern State University – Broken Arrow Campus. The conference provided leadership and community service training, and brought university admissions experts to provide students advice on transferring to four-year institutions. The conference also facilitated students across the region to meet and share ideas about the mission of Phi Theta Kappa.
The Seminole State College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa was also recognized with two certificates of merit for its ongoing engagement with the regional organization, as well as its commitment to providing its members leadership and scholarship opportunities and engaging in campus and community service projects.
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is an international organization that recognizes the academic achievement of college students and provides community leadership and service opportunities for its members. Students must complete 12 credit hours and maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher to be eligible to join.
Seminole State College welcomed local high school counselors and administrators to campus for a workshop on March 29. During the event, a panel of SSC employees spoke and answered questions regarding academic placement, transcripts and financial aid. The panel featured (pictured left to right) Assistant Professor of Agriculture Wendy Rich, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Amanda Estey, Registrar Sheila Morris, Director of Financial Aid Edie Cathey and Vice President for Fiscal Affairs Melanie Rinehart.
Chair of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and former Oklahoma State Attorney General Mike Turpen served as the event’s keynote speaker. Following his speech, he met with attendees. Theresa Shaklee, the Student Portal Coordinator for the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s Oklahoma College Assistance Program, presented on the Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP).
Seminole State College will host two evening events as part of their Reach Higher: Reconnect Week programming from Oct. 24-28. The two events are catered to working adults who are looking to complete their degrees.
Seminole State College SSC hosted a College Transfer Fair on Oct. 5. Students were able to speak with representatives from the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Cameron University, Oklahoma Christian, University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, East Central University, Grand Canyon University, Oklahoma City University and the U.S. Army.

Seminole State College is helping students understand their financial aid options and complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at events this month.
From Oct. 3 through Oct. 6, the Financial Aid Office, in a partnership with Student Support Services, held “FAFSA Days.” Financial Aid specialists set up in the Student Union to answer questions and assist students throughout the process.
The Language Arts and Humanities Division at Seminole State College has released the full lineup of performers for its Howlers and Yawpers Creativity Symposium on Sept. 28 and 29, from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. each day.
With the fall semester beginning Aug. 15, Seminole State College will host its Enrollment Extravaganza event and extend enrollment hours to cater to prospective student schedules from Aug. 8 to Aug. 13. The event will feature games, popcorn, hot dogs, cotton candy and campus tours. Students who stop by during the event can enter a raffle for a $250 or $500 tuition wavier. The drawing will take place on 1:00 p.m. on Aug. 13.
