SSC Baseball Team Volunteers at A League of Their Own Season Opener

Nearly 40 participants, including Seminole State College Trojan baseball players, pose for a group photo during the season opener for “A League of Their Own,” a co-ed softball league established to provide an avenue for individuals with cognitive or physical disabilities to play baseball.

Seminole State College Trojan baseball players worked with members of “A League of Their Own” at the Avedis Foundation Adaptive Field, located within the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex on April 3. The “League” is a co-ed softball league established to provide an avenue for individuals with cognitive or physical disabilities to play baseball. Trojan players volunteered for the group’s season opener Monday night. They encouraged and assisted nearly 40 participants as they hit and ran the bases. The “League” plays on Monday evenings and will continue their season through May 22. For more information about the group, contact Holli Daniels at 405-380-7027.

SSC Educational Foundation to Hold Grand Opening Event for Sports Complex

The Seminole State College Educational Foundation will host a grand opening event for the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex on Oct. 20 from 3 to 6 p.m. A ribbon cutting will be held at 3:15 p.m. The celebration is open to the public and will feature exhibition baseball and soccer games, as well as food trucks and music.

Former Belles Basketball Coach to Be Featured in Docuseries on the History of Women’s Collegiate Basketball

Former Seminole State College Belles Head Basketball Coach Dixie Woodall was recently interviewed by TV sports analyst Brenda VanLengen for her upcoming docuseries If Not for Them. The series focuses on the women who grew the sport of women’s basketball before Title IX, which ensured the right for young women to participate in collegiate athletics. SSC Basketball Coach Inducted into Hall of Fame

Seminole State College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Don Tuley was inducted into the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on June 4 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Edmond. Tuley has been coaching for 43 years, nine of the years at SSC. His overall record is 708 wins and 308 losses.

Tuley won a 2001 NJCAA National Championship at Redlands Community College as an assistant coach and won the 2010 National Championship as a Head Coach of the Oklahoma Impact at the semi-professional level. The teams he has coached have won numerous sectional, district and region championships. He has coached and helped develop at more than 100 student-athletes who have gone on to play NCAA Division I basketball and/or professional basketball. Tuley was selected as an assistant coach at the 2004 McDonald’s All-American Game held in Oklahoma City.

He graduated with an associate’s degree from Murray State Community College in Tishomingo. He then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from East Central University in Ada and completed his master’s degree in Education at The University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

SSC Student-Athletes Receive Academic All-American Honors

Fifty-two student-athletes and six athletic teams at Seminole State College have been recognized for their outstanding academic achievements this year by the National Junior College Athletic Association. The NJCAA Academic All-American Student Athlete Awards are divided into the three groups based on grade point average – First Team requires a 4.0 GPA, Second Team requires a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99, and Third Team requires a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79.
