Reynolds read If I Ran the Circus by Dr. Seuss Tuesday morning to third-grade students in Mrs. Sonia Scott’s class as part of the national week-long birthday celebration of the children’s book author.

SSC to Welcome a “Hurricane” to Campus Next Week
Seminole State College will host former Belles basketball player and Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) star Simone “Jamaican Hurricane” Edwards on campus next week. During her visit to SSC, she will promote her book Unstoppable, a memoir aimed to encourage others to pursue their dreams, even in the face of opposition. SGA Attends Spring Congress Session
Seminole State College Student Government Association members (l-r) Miranda Shupe of Chandler, Kaitlyn Trunk of Okemah, Gage Robertson of Seminole and Miles Piersall of Seminole attended the Spring Congress Session for the Oklahoma Student Government Association at Langston University last weekend. Students visited committee meetings where new resolutions were developed in order to be presented as new legislation. At SSC, Piersall serves as SGA President and Shupe acts as Vice President.
Starbucks Now Available
Seminole State College employees and students joined community leaders and corporate representatives of Great Western Dining for the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the Union Grill serving Starbucks coffee on campus Monday. Winchester Attends Nigh Leadership Academy
Area Seminole State College student Gavin Winchester of Prague, Okla. recently attended the Nigh Institute Leadership Academy held in Oklahoma City.
Winchester received a George and Donna Nigh Public Service Scholarship this year through the Nigh Institute program funded by the Oklahoma Legislature. During the leadership academy, students visited with members of the House of Representatives and the Senate and attended sessions concerning Oklahoma’s local government, government relations, the national election, public policy and Oklahoma’s economic future. SSC Regents Convene for February Meeting
At their February meeting on Thursday, the Seminole State College Board of Regents approved the hiring of Tony Crouch as the College’s new Vice President for Fiscal Affairs. Crouch will assume his role on campus beginning March 1, 2018.
Crouch brings with him a wealth of knowledge in business and finance, including over 20 years of experience in higher education in Oklahoma and Kansas. He comes to SSC from Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Okla. where he served as the Vice President of Business and Finance.
SSC Delegation Attends Higher Ed Day
A large delegation of campus and community leaders representing Seminole State College attended “Higher Education Day” at the Capitol in Oklahoma City, Tuesday, Feb. 13. The event, sponsored by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, is held annually to demonstrate grassroots support for Higher Education funding. Seminole Chamber Honors SSC Employees
Two Seminole State College employees were recognized for their hard work and dedication during the monthly Seminole Chamber of Commerce Forum on Thursday. Assistant Professor of Math Emily Carpenter was honored as “Educator of the Month” and Business and Education/Language Arts and Humanities Office Manager Carmen Hutchins was honored as “Classified Staff Member of the Month.”
The Seminole Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, along with the Lions Club and Blue Ribbon Realty, recognize SSC employees several times during Forum each year. Individuals are nominated from across the campus and chosen by SSC administrators to receive the honor.
SSC Foundation Receives $75,000 Donation for New Baseball Complex
Members of the Kinslow family presented the Seminole State College Educational Foundation with a $75,000 check during the annual Trojan Baseball Kick-Off Banquet at the College on Saturday.
