SSC Postpones Commencement Service, Helps with Recovery Effort following Tornado

Seminole State College has cancelled its annual Commencement Ceremony set to be held on May 6 due to the effects of Wednesday evening’s tornado in Seminole.

Emergency response coordinators advised the College to not host the event due to the potential for intermittent loss of power and general safety issues.

SSC Students Visit Sports Photography Exhibit

Several Seminole State College students recently attended the Walter Iooss photography exhibit at the Oklahoma City Museum of Modern Art. Widely considered the world’s most influential sports photographer and dubbed “the Rembrandt of sports photography” due to his use of light and shadow, color, and composition, Walter Iooss Jr.’s images transcend the fame of his subjects and have come to represent modern sports culture. Iooss’s images have appeared on more than 300 covers of Sports Illustrated—more than any other photographer in the world.

SSC Students Inducted into Sigma Kappa Delta Honor Society

Seven Seminole State College students were inducted into the Sigma Kappa Delta honor society. Seven Seminole State College students were inducted into the Sigma Kappa Delta honor society on April 26 at the Virtual Learning Lounge, located in the Boren Library on campus. Sigma Kappa Delta is a national honor society recognizes outstanding English students and focuses on promoting interest in literature in surrounding communities. Students must have a minimum of a 3.3 GPA and be enrolled in at least 12 hours of coursework. Associate Professor of English Yasminda Choate and Assistant Professor of English Paul Juhasz serve as co-sponsors of the campus chapter. SSC President Lana Reynolds was the event’s guest speaker. SSC Holds Employee Appreciation Luncheon

SSC Students Attend Oklahoma Promise Day at State Capitol

Seven Seminole State College students attended Oklahoma Promise Day at the State Capitol on Feb. 20. Students had the opportunity to meet with legislators and state regents to discuss the scholarship program.

Since its inception in 1992, the Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship program has awarded college tuition scholarships to more than 100,000 students. To be eligible, students must apply during the eighth, ninth, tenth or 11th grade, and their family’s annual income must not exceed $60,000 when they apply. A student’s family income also must not exceed $100,000 each year the student is enrolled in college. Students must also meet academic and personal conduct requirements in high school.

SSC Aggie Club Hosts Fourth Annual FFA Interscholastic Contest

The SSC Aggie Club hosted its fourth annual SSC FFA Interscholastic Contest on Thursday, April 14. Nearly 700 students from across the state of Oklahoma participated in the event. Students competed in eight different contests – Animal Science Quiz Bowl, Milk Quality and Products, Electricity, 8th Grade Greenhand Quiz, Entomology, Environmental and Natural Resources, Floriculture, Homesite Evaluation, Land Judging, and Soil and Water Management.
