Eight Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class students recently received awards recognizing their completion of two years in the program. The Seminole State College Educational Foundation honored four outstanding former students with induction into the SSC Alumni Hall of Fame and presented former SSC President Dr. Jim Cook with the Distinguished Service Award at its 26th Annual Spring Recognition Banquet on April 29.

Seminole State College recently inducted seven new members into the Psi Beta honor society. The seven students inducted for the 2020-2021 academic year were: Emily Ridley of Tecumseh, Taryn Washburn of Shawnee, A-yo Jones of Seminole, Kimberly Durr of Seminole, Harmony Gillespie of Shawnee, Dominic Green of Shawnee and Bethany Randall of Tecumseh.

Seminole State College held a small private ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday for the new Virtual Learning Lounge on campus. Located in Room 100 of the David L. Boren Library, near the campus Food Pantry and the SSC Help Center, the old classroom has been repurposed to provide space for students to study and connect for online instruction.

Members of the Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class gathered Thursday in recognition of Earth Day. The students visited with Ray McQuiston – Fulfillment Center Director for Kontoor Brands, Inc. – who discussed the importance of sustainability and how he spearheaded a recycling initiative for the company to help lower waste and help the environment. He also challenged the students to think of small ways they could do their part in their personal lives and also on the college campus.

Seminole State College hosted the SSC Honors Luncheon on Tuesday, April 20 in the Enoch Kelly Haney Center. The event, sponsored by the SSC Educational Foundation, recognized outstanding students, campus leadership, retirees and employees reaching milestone years of employment. Honorees were allowed to briefly remove their masks in order to take photos with their awards.
