SSC to Host Campus Recognition Event

Seminole State College will host the SSC Honors Luncheon on Tuesday, April 20 in the Enoch Kelly Haney Center. The event will recognize outstanding students, campus leadership, retirees and employees reaching milestone years of employment. In years past, these honorees were recognized during the SSC Educational Foundation’s annual Spring Banquet. In an effort to accommodate social distancing, this year a separate event was created.

SSC Aggie Club Hosts Third Annual FFA Interscholastic Contest

The SSC Aggie Club hosted its third annual SSC FFA Interscholastic Contest on Thursday, April 8. Nearly 300 students from across the state of Oklahoma participated in the event. Students competed in eight different contests – Animal Science Quiz Bowl, Milk Quality and Products, Electricity, Entomology, Environmental and Natural Resources, Floriculture, Homesite Evaluation, and Land Judging.

Seminole Nation Donates Hand Sanitizer to SSC

SSC Baseball Team Volunteers at A League of Their Own Games


Seminole State College Trojan baseball players worked with members of “A League of Their Own” at the Seminole Softball Quadruplex on April 5. The “League” is a co-ed softball league established to provide an avenue for individuals with cognitive or physical disabilities to play baseball. Trojan players volunteered for three games Monday night. They encouraged and assisted nearly 40 participants as they hit and ran the bases. The “League” plays on Monday evenings and will continue their season through May 24. For more information about the group, contact Holli Daniels at 405-380-7027.

SSC Women’s Basketball Coach Named Coach of the Year

Seminole State College Belles Basketball Head Coach Rita Story-Schell was recently named the 2021 NJCAA Region II Coach of the Year. Story-Schell has led her team to a win-loss record of 15-4 this season. Pre-season predictions placed the Belles at sixth in Region II, however the team finished the regular season as conference champions and enters the Region II Tournament as the number one seed. The last time the team won a conference championship was 2007.

Pitts’ Appointment Confirmed by Senate Committee

Oklahoma State Senator Zack Taylor (left) and Seminole State College President Lana Reynolds (right) congratulate Ryan Pitts (center) following the approval of his appointment as a Regent for Seminole State College on April 6.  Taylor (R-Seminole) carried the nomination of Pitts, who was appointed by Governor Kevin Stitt in July of 2020 to the complete the remainder of former Regent Paige Sherry’s term. Sherry stepped down in the spring when her husband, Jack Sherry, was appointed to the Board of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.  Pitts resides in Wewoka and is the owner and senior attorney at the Law Offices of Ryan H. Pitts, P.C. in Holdenville. He also serves as a municipal judge for the city of Holdenville. Pitts’ nomination will be presented on the floor of the Senate for final confirmation.
