Mills Named 11th President of Hill College

Former Seminole State College Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Tom Mills has been named to serve as the 11th President of Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas.

The Hill College Board of Regents approved the appointment last week and Mills will begin his service as President on August 1, 2022.

Mills held a number of positions over the course of 16 years spent at Seminole State College. He served as Vice President for Academic Affairs for five years and the Athletic Director for four years. He also coached the men’s basketball team for nine of his years at the College.

Dr. Mills left SSC in 2019 to accept a position as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Tarrant County College Trinity River campus, located in Ft. Worth Texas.

He has almost 30 years experience working on community colleges in Texas and Oklahoma.

Mills began his education career at Rose State College where he received an associate of arts degree, followed by a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Central Oklahoma. He holds a doctoral degree in biochemistry from the University of Houston.

SSC Regents Approve Mask Requirement Amid COVID-19 Concerns

The Seminole State College Board of Regents approved a measure that would make the wearing of face coverings mandatory on campus at their meeting on July 23. 

To open the meeting, Seminole attorney Ed Cadenhead administered the oath of office for Chair Curtis Morgan. Morgan was recently reappointed by Governor Kevin Stitt. Enrollment Open for Final Slate of Summer Courses at SSC

The final slate of five-week summer courses begins July 20 at Seminole State College. Enrollment personnel can be reached during the week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Campus offices are closed on Fridays during the summer session.

All summer courses will be conducted online to ensure student safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students are encouraged to make an appointment before visiting the Walkingstick Student Services Center and to wear a mask when visiting campus.

Clear protective barriers have been installed in areas serving the public in the Walkingstick Student Services Center and the SSC Bookstore. Current and prospective students may enter SSC buildings for enrolling, paying of bills and advising on a limited basis. Testing is available to students by appointment only. The number of students allowed in office areas and the SSC Bookstore is limited. Students may bring one person into the building with them. Employees and students will be required to wear face masks during personal interactions. Campus guests will be subject to health screening questions and temperature checks when entering SSC buildings.

SSC students can receive associate degrees in 18 transfer degree programs including majors in agriculture, art, biology, business, child development, computer science, criminal justice, elementary education, enterprise development, health, physical education and recreation, health sciences, liberal studies, pre-engineering, psychology, secondary education and social sciences.

The College also offers several enter-the-workforce degree programs, including business technology, engineering technology, medical laboratory technology, nursing and physical therapist assistant.
