
SSC President’s Leadership Class Tours State Capitol


Seminole State College has selected 29 freshmen students for Class XVI of the President’s Leadership Class. PLC is a two-year scholarship program created to help students develop leadership skills and provide personal and professional growth opportunities. Seminole State College President Lana Reynolds (left) visits with Seminole businessman and real estate developer Brandon Streater (right) about the President’s Leadership Class program at the College. Streater, a former member of the PLC program, recently gave a gift of $10,000 to support the student leadership program.
Streater said, “Being in PLC opened my eyes to possibilities of what I could do with my life and helped me set career goals. I travelled the state and I met people who influenced my future. It feels great to be able to give back to the college that meant so much to me, and to help other students benefit from PLC.”
Nine Seminole State College sophomores in the Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class recently received awards recognizing their completion of two years in the program. A large delegation of campus and community leaders representing Seminole State College attended “Higher Education Day” at the Capitol in Oklahoma City, Tuesday, Feb. 15. The event, sponsored by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, is held annually to demonstrate the value and importance of higher education in the state.

The Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class volunteered at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, located in Oklahoma City, on Nov. 9. The thirty-five students unloaded, weighed, and packaged food to help families facing food insecurity issues. The students split into two groups, one group prepared poblano peppers and the other packaged breakfast cereal. In total the students completed 214 cases of food, weighing nearly 3,000 pounds. When the students had finished, they had packaged enough food for 2,460 meals.

The Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class took part in a behind-the-scenes tour of the Oklahoma Aquarium located in Jenks on Oct. 19. Educational Specialist Alyssa Rodriguez discussed the day-to-day work of caring for aquatic life, just before students viewed the shark tank.

PLC students learned about how food is prepared for different species of fish during the tour.

Members of the Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class helped students register to vote in honor of National Voter Registration Day on Sept. 22. PLC students set up six tables across campus, encouraged their peers to participate in the upcoming election and gave away t-shirts to anyone who registered.
