PLC sophomore student Triniti House of Holdenville shoulders an inert Stinger surface-to-air missile (SAM) launcher during SSC’s visit to McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP) Feb. 26. The group received a MCAAP command brief and toured the missile maintenance facility and the explosive laboratory.

Bombs Away!

Members of the Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class and their trip sponsors pose with the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP) during a tour of the facility last week. The MOAB, commonly known as the “Mother of All Bombs,” is the featured attraction at the entrance to the 45,000-acre facility. Fifteen of the massive bombs were produced in McAlester in 2003 in support of the “shock and awe” effort during the Iraq War. The McAlester plant is the premier bomb loading facility and the largest conventional munitions storage facility in the Department of Defense.

PLC visit Oklahoma History Museum

The Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class traveled to the Oklahoma History Museum in Oklahoma City on Jan. 31, where they explored exhibits featuring Oklahoma’s unique history of geology, transportation, commerce, culture, aviation, heritage, and more. Following their museum tour, the group watched the move “On the Basis of Sex,” an American biographical legal drama film based on the life and early cases of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her fight for equal rights. Holiday Food Drive

Seminole State College’s Leadership Development Class collected non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army before the holidays. All donated items were recently delivered to the Salvation Army and will be distributed throughout Seminole County for the Thanksgiving season. SSC Professor of History Marta Osby, who serves as the instructor for the course, said, “This is such an important project because it provides food to families in need during the holidays and beyond.  It is a great opportunity for our students specifically, because it allows them to see how these vital contributions can impact the lives of those most in need.”

PLC Visit Food Bank 2018

Members of Seminole State College’s President’s Leadership Class volunteered at the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank in Oklahoma City on Nov. 1. The students prepared packages of food that will be distributed to participating schools around the state. The bags contained approximately 10 different foods designed to provide nutrition and calories for chronically hungry children over the weekend. The group prepared enough food to fill 2,166 backpacks, with a total of 6,016 meals for hungry children. Continue reading “PLC Visit Food Bank 2018” →
