SSC Celebrates Induction of 11 Students into Psi Beta Honor Society

Seminole State College inducted 11 students into the Psi Beta Honor Society for the 2023-2024 academic year on April 18. These students have demonstrated dedication to academic excellence, leadership, research and community service, embodying the core values of Psi Beta.

The following students were inducted: Emily DeBord of Mustang, Channa Deer of Shawnee, Mackenzie Harris of Shawnee, Nathania Mitchell of Seminole, Atriya Nourbakhsh of Shawnee, Macy Proffer of Shawnee, Olivia Stevenson of Shawnee, Trinity Stover of Seminole, Ashlyn Turner of Lone Grove, Scottlyn Wilson of Shawnee and Makayla Winchester of Seminole

During their induction ceremony, each student was presented with a certificate of membership and an honor stole to wear at commencement, along with SSC memorabilia to commemorate their achievement.

Throughout the academic year, these Psi Beta inductees actively contributed to the Seminole State College community through various initiatives. They organized stress-relief packets distributed during the Stress Management Seminar, sponsored a table at the SSC Trick-or-Treat trail and participated in the Careers in Psychology panel at East Central University to explore diverse career opportunities in psychology.

Professor Christal Knowles, the faculty sponsor of Psi Beta at SSC, commended this year’s inductees. “This year’s inductees into the Psi Beta Honor Society have showcased their dedication and perseverance through their outstanding performance in academic pursuits. I am exceedingly proud of their academic achievements thus far and eagerly anticipate their future endeavors, which I am confident will continue to be remarkable,” Knowles said.

Psi Beta is the national honor society in psychology for community colleges, dedicated to the professional development of psychology students. To qualify for membership, students must maintain a minimum overall grade-point-average of 3.25 with at least a “B” or better in an introductory psychology class, demonstrating a genuine interest in psychology.

Seminole State College of Oklahoma has maintained an active charter with Psi Beta since 1996.
