Seminole State College will commemorate Constitution Day with a special presentation by Social Sciences Division Chair and Professor of Government Jeffrey Christiansen on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 12 p.m. in the Haney Center Lecture Hall. Entitled “The Story of the Bill of Rights,” the talk will explore the historical roots of civil liberties, the drafting and ratification of the first ten amendments and their evolving application over the past 200 years. Seminole State College will welcome incoming students and their families to campus for New Student Orientation on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Jeff Johnston Fine Arts Auditorium.
The annual event is designed to help students transition into college life, connect with campus resources and start the semester with confidence.
The day will begin at 11 a.m. with a joint welcome for students and parents in the Jeff Johnston Fine Arts Auditorium. At 11:30 a.m., parents will move to Social Sciences Room 104 for a session titled Financial Aid 101, while students remain in the auditorium for Slay the Classroom, a presentation on utilizing campus technology and tips for academic success.
At 12:20 p.m., students and parents will reunite in the auditorium for Know Your Resources = Know Your Power, a session focused on student support services and tools available to help them succeed.
From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., attendees are invited to enjoy free snacks and socializing in the Boren Library.
“This orientation is a great opportunity for students to meet faculty and staff, ask questions, and get comfortable with our campus before classes begin,” SSC Student Support Services/SSS STEM Director Jana Wilson-Byrd said.

Seminole State College will host its annual Kids on Campus summer camp across two sessions: June 16-19 and July 7-10. Camps will run daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering half-day or full-day options for children ages 5 to 14.

Seminole State College Business and Industry Training Coordinator Talina Lee (right) experiences a hands-on demonstration of a charcoal mud face mask, led by Natural Remedies class instructor Jacqueline Bourne (left) on May 15. The community course, “Natural Beauty: Where Nature Meets Self-Care,” explored holistic methods for enhancing hair, skin and nail health. The Seminole State College Educational Foundation hosted its 30th Annual Spring Recognition Banquet on Thursday, May 1 in the Utterback Ballroom of the Enoch Kelly Haney Center. A crowd of 450 guests filled the venue, and the event raised just over $60,000—making it the most successful banquet in the event’s history.
The banquet serves as a major fundraiser and recognition event, honoring alumni, employees and students. This year, Phil Johnson and Karen Romine were inducted into the SSC Alumni Hall of Fame. The Distinguished Service Award was presented to longtime SSC administrator Dr. Brad Walck.
