
Seminole State College will host three summer camp opportunities for children in June: Kids on Campus, STEM Camp and Esports Camp.
Kids on Campus will be held June 1-4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The four-day camp is open to incoming first through eighth graders. The cost is $200, and lunch is included.
Camp options for incoming first through third graders include Mini Makers Art Lab, Wild Child Fitness Camp, Jr. NextGen Agriculture and Jr. Brickitects. Camp options for incoming fourth through eighth graders include The Art Lab, The Fitness Lab, NextGen Agriculture and Brickitects: LEGO City Lab.
Mini Makers Art Lab and The Art Lab will be taught by Seminole Citizen of the Year Jacqi Dill. Campers will work on projects involving clay, watercolor, acrylic painting, splatter paint and beadwork. Wild Child Fitness Camp and The Fitness Lab will be taught by Head Volleyball Coach Bobbi Leitha. The camps will focus on movement, games, teamwork, strength, endurance and coordination.
Jr. NextGen Agriculture and NextGen Agriculture will be taught by Associate Professor of Agriculture Wendy Rich. Campers will learn about agriculture through lessons and activities involving animals, insects, wildlife, plants, soil science and agricultural technology. Jr. Brickitects and Brickitects: LEGO City Lab will be taught by Assistant Professor of Mathematics Cullen Birney. Campers will learn architecture concepts through LEGO building activities, planning and design.
STEM Camp will be held June 15-18 from 1 to 4 p.m. each day on the SSC campus in Tanner Hall. The camp is open to children ages 10 and older. STEM Professor Jarrod Tollett will teach the camp, which will focus on aquatic robot design, engineering and competition. Campers will build and test aquatic robots and participate in robot battle activities.
Esports Camp, “Leveling Up Your Game: Esports as a Career,” will be held June 23-24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day on the SSC campus in Tanner Hall. The two-day camp is open to children ages 10 to 14. The cost is $150, and lunch is included.
The camp will be taught by Angee Noel, founder and executive director of Gaming Is Rezilience. Campers will learn about the esports industry and career paths in coaching, broadcasting, game design, competitive gaming and related fields. No gaming experience is required.
