SSC Softball Earns Top Seed in South Central District Tournament

The Seminole State College softball team will compete in the NJCAA South Central District Softball Tournament May 13-17 at FireLake Ballfields in Shawnee.

The Trojans enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed after finishing conference play with a 23-1 record. SSC holds an overall record of 47-4 on the season and will open tournament play at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 14, against the winner of No. 4 NEO A&M and No. 5 Connors State.

The tournament will begin Wednesday, May 13, with three opening-round games. No. 4 NEO A&M will face No. 5 Connors State at noon, No. 3 Rose State will play No. 6 NOC-Tonkawa at 2 p.m., and No. 2 Eastern Oklahoma will take on No. 7 NOC-Enid at 4 p.m.

SSC recently saw its 39-game winning streak come to an end on May 2 with a loss to Eastern Oklahoma State College. The Trojans have since won two straight games and enter the tournament with a .922 overall winning percentage and a .958 conference winning percentage.

Through 51 games, SSC has scored 415 runs, hit 72 home runs and recorded a .389 team batting average, .454 on-base percentage and .632 slugging percentage. The Trojans are 22-3 at home, 21-1 on the road and 4-0 in neutral-site contests.

The higher seed will serve as the home team throughout the tournament. The championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, with an if-necessary game set for 1 p.m. Sunday, May 17.
